Title: RECURVE TO LONGBOW
Post by: Jmatt1957 on August 04, 2014, 07:34:00 PM
I have been a recurve shooter all my life(except for a couple of years on the dark side. Recently my nephew and his friend(brother) started shooting longbows, and I don't want them to use that as an excuse when I beat them on the 3d courses. So I am switching to a long bow, specifically a Big Jim buffalo. It is 64 ' and 54#@28. my recurves are all 52 to 54 lb. Any advice on making the transition from recurve to long bow would be greatly appretiated.

Really not much to it.  The Big Jim Buffalo is a hybrid that will perform very similar to a recurve.  Grip might be a little lower wrist, but not much of a change.  Maybe take 5-10 arrows to get dialed in.  That's it.  Have fun.

No sense giving up one for the other. In time to come it will be" Recurve with Longbow " You'll get the hang of it and be shooting either or depending on your mood.Been shooting both for years, you'll enjoy the challenges and benefits of both.Best of luck.

The only tip I can give you is  shoot it, shoot it, and shoot it.

When I am shooting my longbow regularly and then go to my recurve,it only takes a few shots for me to get dialed in.

That is not the case when I go from my recurve to my longbow, more like a few quiver fulls.

                                                          Good Shooting,
                                                                         Craig
