The STA is the Southern Traditional Archery association. The CAD is the Catch-a-Dream Foundation.
Every year in June the STA holds a charity tournament for the CAD. We (I say "we" because I am the current president of the STA and a long-time member)are a non-profit, and the charity tournament is our last of the year, so we only keep back enough money to get started next year. Everything else we made at other tournaments goes to the CAD, along with money made at the tournament.
This year was amazing. Even though due to my parents being in very poor health (my Dad passed in March, my Mom just passed on July 28) I wasn't able to participate like I normally would. I was afraid that, along with the economy in general, was pointing to a bad year for the charity shoot.
Boy was I wrong! I just got word a while ago. With the matching funds from Modern Woodsmen and Bass Pro Shops we were able to write a check for $21,000 (that's TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS) to the Catch-a-Dream Foundation.
Not bad for a little redneck traditional archery club.

Thanks! Got news today that we may be able to pick up another big contributor for next year.
Three big things that, to me, are very important about this charity:
1. It's all about kids, primarily kids who aren't expected to reach adulthood.
2. It's all about the outdoors--hunting and fishing.
3. The CAD has a very low overhead, so nearly all the money goes straight to the kids.
Only one office, although any kid in the U.S. who meets the requirements can benefit. Almost all the work is done by volunteers. An estimated 90+ cents on the dollar goes to the kids, NOT for paychecks for people to run it or other expenses.
Great bunch of folks working for a great cause. I'm proud to be a small part of it.
Chad
