Spoke with Denny Sturgis Jr. yesterday--he recently returned from a hunt in Africa.
He's going to send me some details, but for now the short version is BCY-X string on a heavy bow (he was hunting cape buffalo) in the African heat--no stretch or creep. Think he was using 18 strands--still a small diameter string, since X is a very small diameter thread--about 1/2 the diameter of Dynaflight '97.
Denny also has an interview he did in K-zoo with BCY vice-president Roger Browne and yours truly in an upcoming issue of "Bow and Arrow Hunting" magazine.
I'm looking forward to getting all the details--I was on the road when he called and didn't get to talk nearly as much as I would have liked.

I'm loving this stuff. Working on getting different bows to test it on...meanwhile I'm picking the brains of people who are using it.
So far, nothing negative--not one thing, and from guys I am confident that they know their way around a bow. Guys like Rod Jenkins and Denny Sturgis Jr. Looking forward to more reviews in the near future--I expect more of the same.
Yesterday I had to start shooting my Hoyt with an endless BCY X string. Shooting in temps between 90 and 98 degrees I did not have any noticeable change in brace height.
That's one of the three places this stuff shines. Besides practically no creep, it's also very quiet and very durable...not to mention performance it right there even with 18-20 strands.
I ordered some up from reading another one of your posts LBR. I hope it gets here soon! I want to shoot this stuff.
I have a big hunt coming up and will have my T/D Whip with me. I plan on it being broken down and on my pack for a lot of the hunt and I hope the BCY X gives me good brace height when I do string it up. Do you think once I break it in it will stay pretty true? Thanks for the info.
I have no reason to think it won't stay true. I haven't measured, but based on past experience with every other material, it may contract just a tad when your bow is un-strung, especially in a Flemish string. Leaving the bow strung for a little while or take just a few shots will take care of this.
This is the most stable material I've ever used. I haven't tried a low strand count string with it--18 strands is as low as I've gone, even on low draw weights. I haven't found any reason to use less.

Chad, how does the diameter compare to D-10? I'm currently using 8-strand D-10 strings on most of my bows.
I haven't used D-10, but as I understand D-10 is a little bigger than Dynaflight '97?
X is almost 1/2 the diameter of '97, so 18-20 strands should be about the same.
Chad, I bought 2 spools from you up at Denton Hill and spun up a string for a used recurve I purchased there. The bow had some type of FF material on it when I got it, but the BCY-X is much quieter,very stable, I love it.

Thanks for the reply Chad. I have some stuff I need to work into the budget and then I will order a string for one of my bows I currently have an 8-strand D-10 string on.
I won't be able to do any chronograph testing, but I'll give you some subjective feedback.
I appreciate any feedback I can get. The technical stuff is great, but very few folks have the equipment, and even some that do don't know how to use it properly (put me in that category).
In the end, people are doing the shooting anyway.

I just twisted up an 18 strand BCY-X and padded the loops to 24 with B50. Haven't served it yet, but will it show much difference from the 20/24 BCY-X I made? Meaning quietness, and does the length of the padding effect much after its twists proceed past where the string clears the limb? Help a newbie out. I will also say that from the couple I've made I get almost no stretch...no give....and a rock solid shot. Excellent material. Better than the D-10 to me.
We are just waiting on availability from our Canadian supplier, Golden Arrow Archery...that is one disadvantage of living in Canada...I do have a string made of BCY-X on a Blacktail I bought used and it seems like a great string...have not been able to shoot that bow much because of shoulder problems

I built a 12 strand endless and am so far totally impressed--quiet-fast--it had NO creep !-the string settled no more than a 1/4 inch in brace height -strung over night and shot in the next day
I found 12 strands a hair skinny and for no other reason than nock fit-and will build a 14 strand soon--the X handles real nice and makes a NICE string!---this is good stuff!!

Oh,by the way, the string I made up is a 12 strand padded to 24 in the loops. Served with .036 Halo it fits Bohning signature nocks and 5/16" Marco snap ons perfectly.

It will likely be quieter than the 8190 (depends on several variables, but apples to apples it's been quieter for me). The length of the padding won't be a factor as long as it's not super long.
I haven't tinkered with a "skinny" BCY-X. Reason being is I've never been able to get anything from a skinny string that I couldn't get from a moderate strand count in other materials, so I haven't bothered. 18-20 strands is working great for me, and I don't have to do anything extra to get a good nock fit.
