Just curious about having an outfitter transporting gear in and out with elk if successful. No guiding required. I would like to know what the going rate for that is.
PM's are welcomed if you don't care to share here.
Thanks!
Gary
From what I have heard it is about 200-250 per each head of mule for a drop. Depending on how far, it might be more because they won't be able to make a round trip. Generally, 8-10 miles seems to be a half day affair for a mule train.
I have a packer lined up in case I kill one in a real hell hole and don't think I can get him out. I've always been able to get them out on my back so I've never had to use him but his rate is $350. That rate is for going up to about 6 miles in.
I have called in other areas and the price can vary greatly. I'd suggest calling the local National Forest office for your area and getting a list of outfitters for your hunt area and giving them a call to disucss. I've also found a lot of them are so busy guiding during that time they aren't interested in just providing pack service.
