I was just wondering if others have had as much problem with allergies this year as I have. It has been a rough year all around. I use medications, but the cough just persists. Cough drops are an integral part of my hunting gear. Ragweed is the bugger bear for me. Do any of you guys have any secrets for controlling symptoms?
I've been doing a lot of my outside work after rains. It makes a huge difference for me. I say this with a completely clogged nose.

Ragweed is from the Devil! LOL. No kidding it is my worst nightmare. I have had 3 incidents in which ragweed has got the best of me. I use a neti-pot daily, everyday to irrigate-clean sinus cavity.
I have been taking doxylamine succinate (OTC sleep aid) for insomnia but it is also is an antihistamine. It will make you very sleepy! I only take 1/2 a tab, but I think it is also helping me with allergies. Do not take it with zyrtec. September October is the pollinating season for the "demonweed" and that is when I am in the woods for bow season.
This is me after a scouting expedition gone south! We got into the ragweed that was pollinating and my dad had to lead me out of the woods. My eyes swelled shut. This is the next day, wife told me I had to go the ER. Be careful out there.

Dragonheart, I can sure sympathize with that picture. It happened to me once when I was by myself. My eyes swelled so bad I could barely see just a little out of one eye. I had to drive home - this was before cell phones. I made it, but it was very unsafe. Later, I took shots overt a period of a couple of years, which did cut down on the severity of my reaction. My biggest problem now is that some of the medications make me drowsy, even though the advertising says they won't. Folks that have these issues need to be sure to take appropriate meds and to remember that some of them don't mix with that fine single malt Scotch that is so tasty at day's end.
Get you some LOCAL honey and eat it daily, you will be glad that you did. :)

I live in a farming area and everyone here stays sick due to the Arial application of farm chemicals. When they are spraying the wife and me have to come in the house.

Certain chemicals and fragrance can trigger mine more than the outdoors.
Used to have problems, took immunization shots for 5 yrs. much better now.
I used to take shots in the winter for allergies and a doctor toll me why don't you take shots in the summer
well he explain me that my immune system is diffident that it gets rid of all antibodies in the winter and that is why you take allergies shot in the winter so come summer your body will have these antibodies to fight allergy symptoms
so he told me to take non pasterise honey and this of different kink
so I started taking one tablespoon every morning
also take some dryed pollen, dried pollen looks like giant pepper flake
a good honey maker has that
and believe me 90 % of my allergies are gone
Yep,honey from the area you live will make a huge difference, it did for me and my wife. A tablespoon a day......
The honey sounds good, but I am diabetic so can't take much of it at any one time. How much honey do you take at a time? My primary issue is Ragweed. I took allergy shots for quite a long time, and things are not as bad as they used to be. But this year has been unusual.
I have that nagging hacking cough year round. I came down to South Carolina back in November to hunt with Andrew Harper at Wild Thing and never coughed at all.
Only thing that cured my constant hacking cough and blockages was Allegra.
Right now I am taking zyrtec (costco version), nasacort at night, and using a netipot.
Going to try bee pollen once we move.
Earlier this year I tried Nasacort, now available over the counter. Since beginning this, I am almost allergy symptom free. This after years of a sniffling constantly running nose, multiple napkins in my pockets all the time, sneezing, itching watery eyes, all while taking two 10mg Claritin a day. If I skip a day by mistake, it does not get out of control.
I'm almost back to my teenage pre-allergy feeling of freedom. My allergies started in my early 20s. I'm now almost 50. Man what a difference.
Costco has the nasacort three pack for around $30. That is way cheaper than you will find in stores.
Allergy shots helped me significantly. I only have to take medication during the worst one or two months a year anymore. Ragweed is a beast!
I am also afflicted bad. Even affects my hunting in early season and trying to breath quietly while listening for approachin game.
Have any of you guys had pollups in your nose? Have them removed?
I have them and am kinda worried to even have the surgery. I constantly feel clogged. But I hear they can come back after being removed.
Did it help you allergies any by having them removed? Thanks
Like Bear Heart, I've been taking OTC Zyrtec, have been mostly in control. My Dad always used to say "I must have a fresh cold" since "hay fever" was a non-starter for a farmer.

or find a chiropractor or holistic doctor that practices NAET. I had terrible allergies and figured what the hell I will try it. Wasn't really convinced it was anything but placebo but I will be damned if I haven't been allergy free for 3 years now. Crazy stuff. Worked great for me.
I had a really weird night a few days ago trying to deal with the allergies. I took an Allegra-D when I went to bed at 11:30 p.m. Did NOT sleep a single minute that night! I finally got out of bed at 5:30 still totally wired. Man, that honey remedy sounds better all the time.
Yesterday was a bit tough, too. A friend and I went fishing and got stuck, so instead of a few hours in the field, we were there all day long. I suffered through the night but took the Allegra-D when I got up this morning. Maybe it will be out of my system by bedtime tonight, but right now, I am definitely awake.
I am not familiar with the SLIT or NAET therapies but will check them out.
