just recieved my "New to Me" MorningStar,, this bow does not have any nock overlays only the brown glass on back and belly. not sure if I like the string and for the heck of it I put on a SBD string from another bow and what a difference.
I know I can call James but I also know he's busy making bows or maybe relaxing after a long day in the shop so I'd rather just ask the users,,,, do any of you have an 8-strand SBD string with the wrapped loops on your Berrys that have no overlays,, thoughts,, opinions.
Most of my Berry's, and Hill's, and Hill styles are/were sans nock overlays. This is not an issue....if you look at the tip of the limb you will see one or two dark fiberglass wedges between the laminations.....these wedges make the bow FF compatible. I personally don't like skinny strings, but I have built and shot padded loop D97, D10, and now build and shoot BCY X strings from all these bows.

From the bowyer's own lips, "Put a FF on it and watch what happens, all of my bows are meant to use FF". or something like that. If your still having doubts, call him up. I've found that he really enjoys taking a break and talking about his bows and archery in general.

thanks for the posts,,, I'm trying to make the string on it now work maybe try some hush puppies first but the skinny string took alot of vibration away not that there was much to bother me but it made the bow feel like a radical R/D and it just sounded better.
that string will force me to up the spine though which means more arrows so I'd love to stick with the 45/50's I use out of my other bows,, or I can see if the heritages would work but I like woods for the hill style bows it just seems like the thing to do,,, above all with me the Accuracy prevails so we'll have to see.

I just got a used Morning Star from the classifieds and the previous owner sent me the original string and an 8-strand SBD string. The bow is totally quiet with either string, but I get a little wrist slap with the heavier, original string and none at all with the SBD skinny string. 3 guesses which I prefer :)
Bladepeep, what do you have your brace set at? The heavier the string, The more string follow you will get. ...James
James, I'm right at 6 3/4" from the rear of the grip. I can't seem to make this bow make a sound no matter where the brace height is set. With a lower brace, I do get quite a bit of wrist slap and the heavier the string, the more the slap.

ps I have read in the other thread today, that the bow shoots well, give me a call, I will send you a new FF, No charge.
James, the bow shoots EXTREMELY well. Very pleasant. And there's nothing wrong with the original string; the skinnier one just carries a little less weight and I think the string may be getting me on the rebound. At 6 3/4" brace it works great. I'll give you a call sometime, just to talk about your bows, but I'm having a ball with this one.
