Title: taking a one piece Big Jim longbow and making a takedown
Post by: thump on July 25, 2014, 11:34:00 PM
I thought I've heard JIM say all his takedown bows start out as one piece bows and then he cuts them in half. If that's the case l wonder if my buffalo bow can be made into a takedown? Has anyone had this done?

He reinforces the riser on takedowns.  I don't know if he puts this reinforcement in his one piece bows.

Contact him.  He would know.

I don't think that it will work like that.  Talk to Jim he will know better than anyone.

If the Big Fella doesn't have the time, Chris Kilgore at Stringworks Alaska can do it. He does beautiful work (he was taught the carbon fiber sleeving process by Jack Harrison).

Jim's easy to get a hold of just pm him from here he has always been quick to respond for me.
I don't think you can make a one piece into a take down he does reinforce the risers in the glueing process when I ordered my bow  I needed to decide between a takedown and a one piece before the glueing process.

We just got home about 1:30 this morning and am right back at it.   :help:

I wouldn't do it. You would be better off selling it and getting a two piece made...probably wouldn't be much more expensive and it would certainly be stronger.
I have turned down at least a couple hundred people interested in having the same thing done. I just don't trust it without the reinforcement.
