Just bought a tab at a local sporting goods store. Brought it home and shot a few arrows, and it is loud. Do these things usually need to be trimmed? Should it be flush with the top of my finger tips, or a little short, or...?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Mine are no longer than my fingers......but I never had one that was loud, maybe it's stiff and needs to be shot in. Is it leather, calf hair or what?
I have just had similar with a glove. Took me a while to work out what was causing the noise... I presumed it was the bow?string until today when I tried a new Tab. Its amazing what little things make a huge difference.
I trim mine off quite a bit...especially on the bottom, around my ring finger. Then I take them bowfishing all spring to get them wet and slimy and well broken in. My favorite one is quiet as can be now. But yes...when I buy them new, they seem really loud and not as accurate for me.
I have a calf hair tab that I really like for quality of release but it sounds absurdly loud. Maybe I need to trim.
So how exactly are you determining that the tab is loud...my bows make sounds but I am never quite sure where they are coming from...I have had probably a dozen tabs and never had one I would attribute loud to

Ya some are like a 22 short going off! Find a quiet one and stick with it.
Once broken in, I have not had noise issues with tabs and have been shooting them since the 80's. Trimming will probably help.
You may have to glue the different layers together. I have had to do that to some to get rid of the slapping noise.

Yep, that's what I do. Trim it down also.
You dont need as much as you may think you do for protection.
My Black Widow tab sounds like you doubled your belt over and popped it together. I can't stand shooting it!
Went back to the cheapest calf hair tab I own. Worn out but quiet.

I trimed my BW tab and glued the layers together and it's not any louder than other tabs.
I shoot a Bateman cordovan 3 under. Very quiet. Early on I tried tabs that were too big. Now I shoot a medium and the tips of my fingers stick out well past the tab. I shoot a fairly deep hook in the joint of my index finger and just behind the joints of my middle and ring fingers. You only need protection where the string is contacting your fingers.
If it's the tab making the noise, go out and get the Cordovan leather tab from Bateman, the more you shoot it the better it gets, mine is 3 years old now and, still no signs of wear.
