Alright guys my moms letting me buy a new bow and I need some advice on the draw weight. My current bow is a 35# recurve and I can shoot it without any discomfort for around 2 hours without fatigue. The limit to hunt deer around here is 45# so I was thinking of moving up my poundage a bit so I can use the bow when im 16 and able to hunt deer. Is 10# a huge differance or not? Think id be okay with a 45# bow if I shot it often?
10 pounds can be quite a lot for some, it depends on your size and strength. The fact that your young and can build strenght easier than an older person, you might be ok. My suggestion is to find someone close by that has a bow in that weight range and try it first. Over bowing can cause all kinds of problems. If you do decide to go 45# don't just start off shooting it. Shoot your 35# bow and just pull the 45# bow for several weeks until if is comfortable. Pull and hold as many times as comfortable, rest a few and do another rep. do three or four reps every other day. and in a couple weeks you should have built the strength to handle the weight.

So if I take my time and do what you said I should be okay?
I agree with Bob. If you can afford the bow now I'd suggest getting it and building up to it the next 2 to 3 years. I've known many 13 to 14 year olds that could handle 45 pounds.
as Bob said go slow, Warm up shooting your lighter bow then pick up the heavier one for a few shots. if you find your form suffers then back off.
Good luck,
Ron
I think you could handle it, I'm 15 and have been shootig 50# since I was 13.
I am 17 and I shoot a 55# bow and I do just fine. just make sure your not over bowed and keep your shots in close like 15-20 yards and use a razor sharp 2 bladed head.
everything I would say has been said, but dude I love your sig :biglaugh:
