Title: Finish and paint
Post by: snowplow on July 21, 2014, 11:40:00 AM
Hey guys, what do I need to know about finishing wood shafts and then being able to crown dip/crest them?

The first finish I looked up said dont crown dip over it. So I am wondering about compatibility.

Or do you dip the stain to your desired level then crown dip from the other end to the stain line?

Yep, I'd wipe or dip the stain to the cap line then dip the cap, starting with flat white will really make your chosen color "pop".

I've used a bunch of different paint/finish combos, always with the finish over the cap and stain. Some paints will run with certain finishes dipped over them, so I crest then spray some Min-Wax poly over that area as a last step before nocks and fletching are applied.

BTW, try a search also. There have been some threads here with great info about what's compatible with what.

Good luck and make sure to share your creations with us!
