Title: Tradgangers have a hoarding problem
Post by: oxnam on July 20, 2014, 01:06:00 AM
That's right we have a bunch of members with a hoarding problem.  I know there have to be a bunch of heavy Schafer Silvertips, just collecting dust and not getting the proper field time they deserve.  Just remember if you love them, some times you need to let them go

I keep thinking that one will get posted in the classifieds but that hasn't panned out yet so maybe that's not such a good strategy.  Which is strong evidence for my hoarder hypothesis.

Do you have a bow in mind that you can never find for sale?

Two actually...a left handed Kodiak Deluxe and a left handed Hoyt Desperado...fortunately I shoot both right and left handed and I have right handed versions of both...this is not the only place to look for Silvertips...heavy is a relative term...what draw weight are you talking

Yep, there is a 64 pounds at 27 inches FF compatible Silvertip Takedown for sale on another site...one of the nicest looking Silvertips I have ever seen and that is saying a lot when you look at the pics of some of them on here

Sorry...apparently I need to learn to read...it is a one piece Silvertip....I think they look much nicer than the Takedown anyway...if it was a lighter draw weight and I had not just spent about 2500 dollars on bows I would be making an offer on it

The lefties don't seem to have a hoarding problem lately, and of course that doesn't help me at all.

I think there are a few things that cause me not to part with certsin bows that I don't use, or can't use because it's too heavy etc.The first is sentimental value connected with it like  being your first bow or having used it on a memorable hunt, or hunts.  Others are the possibility of it being passed down to family members someday, or collecting. Now in my 60's, I am starting to sell bows that I wouldn't part with 10 years ago. My wife says I'm a hoarder!

Well, at least I don't hoard designer shoes and handbags.

All 6 of mine will never be for sale neither will the two that are coming in August. I will continue hoarding until someone stages an intervention.

I'm sure my wife would say the same thing.  Once you have a bow, there's usually no pressing need to get rid of them.  "Heavy" is quite subjective, 75#, 65#, and 55# are the limbs I would like, starting with either of the first two.

I watch a half dozen sites and did see that nice one piece, it got me excited when I initially saw the specs.

The wait time was so long I figured I would just pick up a used one     :knothead:

I have also never been able to shoot one, so I would take less of a hit it I really didn't care for it and wanted to turn around and sell it.  I had that happen with a Black Widow

Keith I cannot imagine a better combination of materials than that bow...okay so maybe a Snakebit with Snakewood and Gaboon Ebony and Koa veneers like the one I just got...we live in wonderful times when it comes to custom bows, eh?

As nice as Dave's bows are I would still love to own an original made by Paul...I had a deal made on a lefty once, but the disposable cash I was going to use to pay for it suddenly became indispensible...I hate it when reality gets in the way of an addiction...we tend to think of Silvertips as being recurves...the fact is Dave is a very accomplished longbow builder as well...mine was probably the nicest longbow I will ever own...I only sold it back to the original owner because it seemed like the right thing to do

The original question...I would like to find a 2pc Bighorn longbow 60" with a Bighorn inlay and sheep tips.

That looked like a nice bow Keith.  What a small world we live in.

I had the unbelievable happen, checking the local craiglist, someone had just listed a "Dave Windauer recurve"!!  I wasted no time to give that bow a new home.  I'll make a new post to show off my new found treasure.
