I make my own out of a toothbrush.  Best rest I have found for bowhunting.  I have yet to wear one out.

I prefer the brush rest on my recurves. I have had one fail since 1973. I do replace them but that just because. I have a Warf bow that I drilled out for use with a plunger. I get mine from Black Widow or 3Rivers.

I shoot a Hoyt Dorado with a plunger, I think that tooth brush rest is pretty cool but I dont think it would work as sometimes I shoot vanes.

I shoot 5" Vanes off my toothbrush rest.  I can get full clearance with the right nock rotation.

On a metal handle that is cut so far past center it takes a thicker piece of leather to build it out to center shot.  I built one on my buddies DAS and we had to really build it out.

That style of flipper rest gives great arrow clearance, but lack in the durability department.  Yes it will work, but for hunting you can get the arm hung on something and the rest is done.

You could actually shoot the button with the toothbrush rest.

hmm, could you post some instructions on how you rig that up?

Here is a build along.  I use a belt sander and buy the old school toothbrush's, surprisingly not easy to find.  I buy a "big head" one at Walgreens that has alot of bristles.

I cut them out with a handheld jigsaw and vise.

In thinking about using the Berger button, you will need a little thicker piece of leather to attach the  bristle "piece" to.  That way the bristles will be out a bit to compensate for the extended button.

You could cover the shelf and just punch a hole for the button to come thru.  That way your shelf and side of riser would be silenced.  I use .030 thick pigskin, thin and durable.

What weight arrow do you shoot?

I just met this guy on another forum that was having fits shooting off the shelf.  I put a tooth brush rest on his curve for him.

Well I was shooting some 470 grain carbons but I just bought some 2117 aluminums, they should come in at around 560 grains(full length with 125 grain points, hunting setup). I would be bareshafting them today but not until I get this rest replaced.

I am really digging the Strickland plunger with the integrated wire rest on my Hoyt. It is kind of like the NAP center rest but with a tunable plunger. Otherwise I use a homemade brush rest like those on a Lone Wolf bow.

Are the brisles strong enought to support the arrow or could it fall below the plunger?

I have never built one for a plunger.  The bristles are stiff.  You would have the get the height right.

hmm I think that might work pretty good for use without a plunger. I am going to stay with a typical magnetic flipper rest but thats a cool rest for sure.

If you wanted replace with similar to what you had, might try a Hoyt prorest.  There are Olympic archers that still use them.

I got a Flipper rest 2 today, works great and the wire is a bit thicker so it should be more durable, hopefully

Hoyt Dorado w/ NAP Centerest flipper. I've never had a bow that was easier to tune.

Sirius, I agree the Dorado is a easy to tune sweet shooting bow.... So far this flipper rest 2 seems ok, I trimmed the wire down a bit to get better clearance with vanes.

Ditto on the Toothbrush rest, I have them on my recurves easy to make and they work great!

I got a bunch of Para Rest brush rests from Joe St. Charles...they work fine by themselves but I also have one with a plungerest on my Hoyt

On my metal recurves (TT Titan and Strickland Stick) I love the Strickland springy plunger.  I'd have it on my wood risers too if it weren't for the lack of centershot allowance on them.

Extremely tunable, forgiving, very durable, and with the right material on the springy arm quiet.

I have a Bear weather rest on a Silvertip. I also have Flipper II rests and have tried a flipper Cavalier.

After learning about it on here I contacted Tim Strickland after I noticed the rests are not listed on the website...they are having more made and they will once again be available
