Title: SAFARI TUFF TABS
Post by: culleng on July 14, 2014, 03:08:00 PM
I Have looked at these tabs and they look really nice. My questions are has anyone used these? If so what is your thoughts on these and do they make them for split finger? Thanks

Don't know about split fingers, but I bought two. I love them. Best tab on the market!

I love mine too.  Not available in split fingers, unless something has changed recently.  Possibly not available at all at the moment, as Rod may have been having a supply problem.

The Bateman tab listed above by Ferret is excellent.  Myself, along with many others here use it.

Do y'all custom trim this tabs?  If so how.  I have one but there is a bit of excess material. I rest the string closer to the tip of my finger than the joint.  I have seen the black mamba pictures but still a bit apprehensive.

Can't go wrong with a E. W. Bateman tab for split.  Go to website or call then and buy direct from them if you want.  If you want the tab listed above but with the extra layer of leather to align the string with (like Rod's tab) ask for the ETAB.  That is best one they make but not listed on website yet.   If you call then you can even specify the thickness of Cordavan you want.  Trust me you need a small or medium at most unless your a giant guy.

For three under Rod Jenkins tab is the way to go, great quality.  All Safari Tuff products are top quality and will last over time.  You will be happy with either one I think.

Cordovan is really really hard to get these days, even more so than usual I guess, so if you get one don't lose it!

Don't be fooled by the term cordovan...there is more than one type. The shell is the cut that is important. The rest...called "cordovan" is secondary leather and not of the same quality.
The Safari Tab is shell cordovan.

Rod's tabs are one of the few things in life actually worth the price.  I gave my PH in Africa my broken in one and felt naked with only my spare so ordered 3 more today.  Those should last me until I am dribbling my oatmeal...

I've got one and actually made a split finger tab out of it. Works great, and I can still use it for 3 under if I want to.

Steve O that's funny. Although I am wondering....As many animals as you guys shot in Africa, you may wear those out.    :goldtooth:

Culleng,
What size do you use? I have some Medium and Large Alaska Bowhunting Supply split cordovan tabs I bought when they discontinued them. Great Tab! Would be willing to part with one. I switched to 3 under and use Rod's tab now.

I've got a 3under Jenkins tab.  I've tried a neet calf hair, BW super leather, AAE cordovan, and the plastic Supertab.  This is my favorite so far by a longshot.

All tab sizes are in stock......In the 1.5 yrs my tabs have been on the market, I think we have had on a delay of a week on a couple standard orders.....in fact with the entire line of Safari Tuff products, we have only had a few short delays in shipping. It's costs more to not have out of stock situations , but I sleep better   :)

Split finger tabs coming soon

When in doubt, go to the source.

Rod is flat-out anal about the products he uses--especially the ones that carry his name.  That is why he's my "go-to" guy when I have a question about strings...not that I ever have a question about strings (yeah, right).

I've tried to find something wrong with his quivers, and can't...but he still finds ways to improve them. Drives me nuts....

I feel much better now. Going to get these 3 extra into rotation to get them broke in and then put two of them away in the safe!

I bought a couple of these a year or so ago. They are nice tabs. Sort of all leather versions of the Cavalier Elite that I favor. I like the way the dense leather frame can be placed along and parallel to the bow string. The Cavalier Elite has a metal palm plate that does this. The Safari Tuff is less of a scratch risk to a fine wood riser though.

I still favor the Cavalier because I can feel the string better.
