Please post pics if you've got em. Would like to get suggestions on riser woods that look good with brown glass limbs.
I bet myrtle would look really nice!
Hmm. My picks would be, in no particular order..Chechen, Myrtle, Zebrawood, Goncalo Alves, Ziricote, Pau Ferro, Bastogne Walnut,...so many choices. I'll think of a few more...
I think true brown glass looks great with about any wood that isn't black or super dark brown. Looks good on white woods like maple, and semi dark brown woods too.
Personally I would think the brown glass will look best on woods that are lighter in color than the glass.
The trick though is often brown glass comes out a little burgundy colored I hear.
Brown with a hint of purplish/red just doesn't sound appealing to me....maybe on purple heart..lol
^^^ it would be the good stuff (no burgundy, yuck :) )
Anything with good contrast.
Always been a big fan of brown glass, hope to see some good pics on this thread
I have a JD Berry that has macassar ebony in the riser with brown glass, and if Photobucket decides to play, I will post a pic. That is a very nice combination.
Photobucket isn't working, so here is a link to my post about my Berry. The brown glass is on the back, with white on the belly.

Ever seen a 1964 - 1965 Bear Grizzly? Stunning with brown glass and zebra wood
Kingwood, Shedua, Honey colored Cocobolo & Bolivian Rosewood.
I have seen a few bows made with Yew and brown glass that looked good.
ipe, maple isn't to bad I guess. maybe to much brown???
I'm an Osage fan, brown would be good with Osage.
Tall Tines in Wenge and Bocote with brown glass limbs. When I ordered it I intended to put Copperhead skins on it but when I finally got it that chocolate colored glass was just too pretty to cover up.

I have a Kanati made with the newer brown glass. It is lighter in color, with out the burgundy hue... more of a tannish brown.
Oops, double post. Darn iPad.

Agree on osage. I thought about the list I mentioned and after thinking on it I vote for Gonçalo Alves.

This is great combo and I have one, '65 Grizzley that is. Zebra wood with brown glass would be a great combo. Will post a pic later.

..sure would like to see a pic of that one....please..lol
Jason had some posted a while back, but they are no longer viewable. I would have to send pics to someone by e-mail. Basic Kanati, walnut dymondwood riser/brown glass.
Do a search for new brown glass, and a thread called Gordon's new brown glass will come up. Charlie Lamb posted a picture, of a bow, with the new color.
My preference is yew in the core and a myrtle riser, but there are several combinations that look great with brown glass.
I'm with Allen ,Yew cores,Myrtle,Zebra or Cocobolo risers
here are a few of the Grizzly's I mentioned. Sorry, can't see the brown glass that well. I sold all but one of these

BWD...
Thanks for the tips.
I searched them out.
Found the comparo that Kenny did.
Have to admit...I like the old brown like in the Bears above better.
..but whata do?..Only can use what's being made.
The new stuff doesn't look bad though, that's for sure.
I'll bet it does look very nice next to the walnut action/dymond wood. Has what looks to be a nice tone to go with it.
bwd..
If ya'd like to send those pics of the Kanati my way it would be much appreciated....Keep tossing the idea around of having one built and can't decide which woods.
My email is johnpaulkelley1@gmail.com.
Thanks

Thanks John,it shoots real good to.
Shedua, one of the best looking of all bow woods, and if you can mix it with ebony it looks great. Get the new brown glass it is better color than that old redish brown colored glass, the new is a more chocolate colored also they have carmel colored that looks great on the belly with brown on the face.
Brown glass with macassar ebony.
