Shout out to all my fellow Mississippi Traditional Bowhunters to check out our new state bowhunting organization. the Mississippi Traditional Bowhunters cica july 4th 2014!!! one time payment of $10 for lifetime due plus you get great patch and decal showing our Traditional Passion. We will have have our first Annual Campout/Hog Deer Hunt ( place is loaded with hogs) this Oct. at TBA so keep up with that on our website. Thanks Chad. The MTB will definitely do it's best to continue to support the STA and orgs like them because of all the fine work they have done for many many years. Since the MTB will NOT be shooting/target organization , we will not have shoots, not own targets, have no officers , no yearly dues or etc. We will only meet once a year TBA and HUNT. Who knows you may pitch your tent right next to Monty B!!!....MTB will strictly be a fraternal Traditional Bowhunting Org not trying to save the world but a loose group of like minded bowhunters trying to share a campfire once a year.

I got the green light on the deer / hog hunt. Every one who puts in for the permit will get picked. The yockanookany wildlife management area is loaded with hogs. It should be a good hunt. mstradbowhunters.webs.com

As a 71 year old resident of Mississippi I am not required to have a hunting license nor am I required to have a WMA permit. My question is: Do we still have to register with MDWFP at the WMA for the scheduled hunt since we are not required to have a permit?

Ron D. , I don't want to tell you wrong so you better call and find out. I would say yes, you will still have to apply for the hunt due to the fact this is a draw hunt only. I was advised by MG&F that every person that applies would get drawn. I am very excited that we are having this many interested people. Everyone that is interested do a search on the Yockanookany management area. It will be a good hunt.

We have not decided on a hunt date yet. You can not apply until August 1st. The hunt will be sometime in October. What dates would everyone want to shoot for? The first part of October or towards the end.

Not even close Dave, PBS structured entirely different with by laws , two tier membership, office overhead and equipment requirements and other stuff
MTB has no by laws or anything structured or judgmental to qualify. We will be just band of Bowhunters that hunt with traditional equipment and enjoy sharing fellowship once a year over a real hunting campfire and have a website forum.
It would be dream to have some fellow PBSers from neighboring states join us. Never met a fellow brother that didn't know his way around woods.

Agreed but I believe the PBS was initially formed alot like this and as they grew so did the structure. Glad to see ya doin this Joe

I have questions regarding the annual hunt plan. How will the selection of a hunting location for each year be determined and will the locations be varied throughout the State? I don't know if I will be able to make some of the hunts due to age and some medical issues. However, I think all of you should get together and take advantage of any hunting opportunity that becomes available. I am assuming that the annual hunt will be located on public land somewhere in the state. I live in the Mississippi Delta and hog hunting is pretty sparse with the exception of private land and some very limited federal NWRs. Dahomey National Wildlife Refuge has a hunt able hog population but has other drawbacks that go with it. Hunting Dahomey is difficult due to the thickness of the brush in places and you will be butt deep in rattlers and cottonmouths. It is the only place I have hunted for years since it is about 8 miles from my house.

Hello Ron , to answer your question on location. yes it will bounce around i hope! Pretty much will be the direction of the volunteer Campo-ree/Hunt committee. Matt stead is heading that up. However the number 1 criteria for location is having abundant GAME availability. I have also a short term plan to work with river clubs to hunt their hogs in the summer for their costly eradication. We put the right foot forward in front of Ms DNR then there may be some opportunities for us down the road if we represent ourselves with integrity which i am sure we will since being TRADITIONAL with traditional values!!

This organization is definitely needed. It will give trad bowhunters throughout the state, both resident and non-resident alike, the opportunity to hunt throughout the State of Mississippi. Having a good relationship with MDWFP will enhance the organizations ability to schedule and develop more hunting opportunities. This is a good thing for trad bowhunters in Mississippi and those wishing to find hunts from other states. I will be joining as soon as I can.

Thanks Ron for your kind words!!! Mississippi is fortunate to have several great organizations that already support the state Traditional archery community and great causes it gives money too....god bless them and continue support.
MTB will solely focus on the traditional fraternal-ism of the traditional bowhunters in Mississippi, the south and now the nation!!!
The sign up has been overwelming. We now have members scattered across the nation.....2016 we are going to need a bigger WMA haha!! Maybe $10 is too cheap for a life membership!! :) ...
This is really going to be fun for me to meet fellow trad bowhunters in a hunting environment annually at our shin digs!!

Today is our lucky day! Brandon Stahl of Rose Oak Creations has donated one of his creations for the lucky winner of the drawing to take place at the campout. You DO NOT have to be present to win. Everyone gets 1 name in the bucket if they have joined MTB 10 seconds before drawing!!!. I know Brandon and his work through encounters from former PBS Banquets. His bows are the high bar in my book, period. Classic design, flawless workmanship and almost to pretty to take hunting....He is donating an Ultra DeLight Recurve of winners choice of weight and lenght to be entered in his log. Brandon is 8 months to a year out. So dont bug him two weeks after you win it asking for your bow or it rotates over to ME!!!!!!!!! club rule. Brandon emailed me with this offer and and i was floored. I cant thank Brandon personally enough for helping MTB get off the ground and we owe him a nice hawg if he can ever break away one fall and hunt with us!! For those unable to access the site the difficulty concerns robots.txt. I have tried every search engine with no luck in accessing the site. Finally, I went to Google and here is the message I received: "A description for this site results is not available because of this sites robots.txt."
The website administrator may want to take a look at this and see if he can solve to the access problem.

Count me in, dues just got paid. Northern MS is beautiful, always wanted to hunt there and it ain't far from me. Plus that Rose Oak is callin! Hahaha love a chance at some swag.

Joebuck, same with me. When I go back to your first post and click on the web address provided I get the message "server not found" and it goes to a second page and states that the site cannot be found. The problem is with webs.com the source of the site. I believe that webs.com is going to have to address this issue if it is going to be resolved. For me, I am going to use my cell phone web manager since I have no problem opening the site there. But I would be willing to increase my dues from $15 to $20 if we could get access to the search engines and open the site from there, and that includes giving an additional $5 per year to have a more readily accessible site. Maybe the site administrator could give us an estimate of cost to have access to the search engines on an annual basis. The lack of access can spell the loss of memberships. It's worth the additional money to make this organization successful, even if it goes to a annual minimum dues of $5.

I just drove thru the great state of Mississippi from south to North yesterday!! Beautiful down there.
I'm glad I joined day one. Can't wait until I can spend more time down there. Hope this club is around for years to come.

Chris, I'm not concerning myself with it since I can open it on my cell phone. It has to be on my end and is probably related to the Windows XP operating system which Microsoft no longer supports. Since Microsoft dropped its XP support a number of problems have arisen which is a good indication of what is happening. I did ask AVG the internet security system I am using if their security program has anything to do with it and there answer was no. I will be joining as soon as I can.

I have a membership question concerning filling out the data on the website and paying the annual dues.
Do I need to send the dues first and wait for confirmation before completing the personal data on the website form? or Do I go ahead and fill out the form for joining and then send the dues? A question of sequence I suppose.

Hello Ron, the dues are a one time payment for life. $10 makes you a life member.No other dues period. You have two options, just join the forum for free. or go through Paypal and pay $10 and your a life member with a patch and decal. You can choose to join the forum and or MTB. Instructions are listed where to send a check if you do not prefer paypal. I have also received cash! good luck

Kip , i think only on duck hunting on the Mississippi river from point of entry. I know when i fish in Burris , i have to buy non resident lic.

We have the first annual deer/ hog hunt set for October 24th - 26th. The hunt will take place at the Yockanookany wildlife management area. You must apply for a WMA permit During the month of August. I sent in the dues for my wife and myself. Didn't get any response. Emailed Joebuck, and he replied promptly. Had a couple more exchanges, but never got or received anything. He did offer to send some merchandise, but I told him I mostly wanted the patch and decal. We have a long history with traditional archery in Mississippi and that was our primary focus. I know by reputation he is a fine, stand up man. I think the fervor ran low, and interest was lost. It is a minor issue, not worth getting upset about. All is good.

We tried to get Mississippi Traditional Bowhunters started but it seemed that we couldn't get any participants. I believe there are enough people in Mississippi to have our own trad organization. Joebuck probably still has the patches and stickers, maybe some shirts also. He told me he lost a ton of money on the shirts. He said people wanted them but by the Time they came in no one was interested anymore. We even had a little free website for awhile. I will send Joey a message. I would love to see it get going again. Brucker was the main contact person but he had a career change and moved to Louisiana.
Also; Joey is a top notch guy; with a ton knowledge. He would like to see this get going.

I started Traditional Archers of Mississippi on Facebook. If anyone is interested. I'd be interested in helping getting something going again. It just needs marketing. :thumbsup:

There is the STA which is the only trad organization in the state that I'm aware of. I don't think they have a Facebook page. If they do I never see them post anything. They have a few shoots at Learned each year as well as at Enid Lake.

As Matt stated we tried to form a basically "free" boots on the ground kind of MS trad bowhunting org that meets once a year ( club hunt) and $10 lifetime due! We still have a website, t-shirts, decals and patches. I floated the $$ and i was glad too :) . I think the public schools in Oxford are tired seeing my kids in MTB t-shirts!!

Last I knew the STA was having it's own problems. I'm not associated with them anymore. It wasn't supposed to be a MS club, but rather a "Southern" club with members from all over the Southeast...although the majority of the members were from MS and AL.
