This is a strange post, I know. I'm looking for headgear recommendations for the warmer summer and early fall months. I just had to purchase new glasses (progressives - oh joy!), and I wasn't able to get the transitions tinted lenses this time. I'm pretty sensitive to the sun, but just can't manage to anchor and shoot like I want to because the bill gets in the way. I tried notching out the bill, but that didn't work out so well - it just created weird shadows.
For those that wear caps, what are you using that works well?
I wear prescription sun glasses. Can you get them for your prescription lenses? Mine are the kind that you use for sports.
Unfortunately, with my goofy prescription for near and far sighted prescriptions, and my insurance plan, separate prescription sun glasses are out of my price range. Also, I found that even with the transitions lenses, the shadows in the woods would make it hard to see, but would straighten out once the lenses adjusted. Straight sunglass lenses would likely cause me to break my neck in the woods (I'm already tripping over my feet with the progressive lenses!). :)
Id go with a boonie hat or soft brimmed Tilley. Both have a full brim for sun protection and shade but get out of the way of a string.
Thanks GDPolk - I think a boonie hat is what I'm looking for. That name was evading me. The short, flexible brim should be just the ticket!
I have short-billed archer's hats with wire in the brim. Even if I flatten the bill to my forehead I can still feel the string touch there and it bugs me. I wear a beanie but it offers no protection from the sun.
Sometimes I'll wear the hat with the bill turned away from the string and maneuver until the sun is blocked.

x2 on the boonie hats. I love those things. If you can find one that has mesh between the brim and top, you'd be hard pressed to find a cooler archery-friendly hat.
Thanks again, everyone!
Another vote for a boonie! You may also check out Cocoon sunglasses. The fit over your glasses. My wife and I both wear them and really like them. They are polarized, come in a variety of frame and lens colors and very reasonably priced. I like the black frames and amber lens. My wife has the tortoise shell and amber lens.
Check out Slangvel on Facebook. He makes custom boonies in a number of patterns and can do the top area in matching mesh for ventilation. My buddy has one and I am going to order one soon too.
You'd be supporting another Veteran built "Made in the USA" product.
Stump Buster, thanks for that. His multicam boonie with mesh looks like the hat I've been imagining for years.I think I'm going to have to get one.
I use a Tru-Spec wide brim Boonie hat I have one in desert digital and one in woodland digital both are light weight and built to last.
