Title: Bowfishing Set-Up For ACS 3 Piece
Post by: cloudbaseracer on July 01, 2014, 02:29:00 PM
Guys,

I have an ACS 3 piece longbow and want to find a way to attach a bow fishing rig. I do not want to drill into my bow to mount anything. What do you guys suggest is the best way to go?

Thanks,

James

AMS Bowfishing Traditional Mounting Bracket. Works great on my recurves.  With a recurve type riser and longbow limbs...I'm assuming that's what you have...it'll strap right on.

I haven't tried it on a one piece longbow but it looks to me that it would be an awkward fit...if it fit at all.

No the ACS has a very small riser and not like a typical recurve.

Surely there are more bowfishing guys on here that have experience with these things?

Great Northern makes a strap on 'Gadget Adapter' that won't mar the finish and has an AMO threaded hole.  3Rivers sells em for about $20/ shipping.

I use the strap on Gadget Adapter from 3Rivers to mount my Hawglite on my 3-piece ACS. It should mount a bow fishing rig with no problem.

If you do not want a strap on gizmo like the AMS adapter, then you can make a mount like I did that goes under the limb bolt. This mount is for an AMS retriever reel. (If you are wanting to use a Zebco 808 reel, you will have to go with the Gadget Adapter from 3Rivers.) The one I made is out of 1/4" steel, and as such is pretty heavy. If I was to make another one, it would be out of 1/8" aluminum. This little mount works fantastic, and looks real good on a bow too. I had it mounted on a Bob Lee recurve for 5 or 6 years.

If your riser is really short, you may not be able to make this work? This bracket mounts to the top limb bolt and makes the reel sit on the side of the bow, just like if it was tapped and mounted to the side of the riser. You just have to make one and see.
