Title: Java Man Elkheart in the works....
Post by: Guss on June 30, 2014, 07:47:00 PM
Gregg has got my Elkheart started....54" 50@28" 2 pc....
Phenolic/Macassar riser w/Water Buffalo handle overlays...Macassar veneers w/buffalo tips.
Gregg has been a pleasure to work with and has kept me updated and shared a few pics of the process...thought I'd let everyone share in my excitement and anticipation...!!

A work of function and art in the making!  This looks like a really beauty.

I love Gregg's work, and wish I could use one of his bows.  (I have tried several times, but short bows just don't work for me.)

Gregg is a great guy to deal with, too!

Guss your bow sounds almost identical to my St. Jude's bow that's about to be finished in the next few days  :D   The veneers on mine are very very similar to Macassar, called 'Royal' ebony.  My riser is half phenolic, half Bocote.  Also doing Buff overlays and tips...and beaver grip  :)   It's like we read each other's minds.  But mine is lefty LOL.  We're Elkheart brothers.

I also have all the build pics from mine.  I plan on a full review and ALL the pics before and after.  Stay tuned.

Actually the 'Royal' ebony on mine may be more or less same as Macassar...or yours are Royal...LOL...they look about the same.  My bow is 56" 2pc and will be 52-53@29 so almost same weight as yours.  Can't wait to show it off.  Functional art is an understatement.

***edit: just texted Gregg and he says the Mac and Royal are very similar, yet still different.  Neato!

My 56" Silvertip is Macasser with Buffalo tips.  Love that combo.  Cant wait to see the finished pics.  Yours and 9worlds.

Sir, you and I have similar tastes.  My Dauntless is all Macassar.  There are lots of beautiful woods for bows, but that's my favorite!

Great looking bow.  My son recently received a 56" Elkheart.  It is smooth to my 31".  He shot the lights out with it at the Annual High Country shoot in Colorado.  Gregg's work and attitude are grade A!

Awbowman, easy! Trade your one bow for one of these!

Same went for me, had the same bow for 2 & 1/2 years. Tried one of Greg's Falcons, not planning on buying anything... couldn't bear to send it back. Sold my other "one bow" to fund it ( at least somewhat!).

Guss,
my St. Jude's bow arrived today on my day off.  Woooo buddy are you in for a TREAT.  What a mean machine AND a looker.  I texted Gregg with a hearty "You done gooood!!". I will be posting more pics and a full review of mine sometime real soon.  As some others posted about not too long ago, from a performance standpoint the new Elkhearts are most 100% definitely a step above the original Classic Hunters Gregg used to build.   Stay tuned.
