Went to check cameras Thursday eve, on the way back I saw something in a pond that is next to the road between cabin and lease....
You can see where he/she swam thru the mossy junk...

I went over and looked the deal over, the fawn could barely raise it's head. Had new leather boots on and looked like he was OK for a few minutes, head was up on shore.
So I went home , got Renee and some rubber boots and vinyl gloves .
Back on the scene, I eased out in the water so he didn't try to swim back out. He had regained enough steam to get up and wobble off into the weeds. Glad I didn't have to assist him really, I'd say his momma was watching us and will take over. She had been up and down the shoreline a few times.

Normally try not to intervene in nature, but figured if I could see him so could a list of others that would like a snack...
Also, there is close to a 50% chance he is a buck, and about a .001% chance he's a P&Y!
Better than the lottery any day! :D
Nice save but understand how cruel nature left on its own favors the strong.
Nice job Kenny....hope to see that little one running around come Oct

Totally understand, and that's why I was glad he pulled it off by himself(or her!)
I hope you see his Daddy , Terry! :D

Nice job
Cool experience. Nice job.

Nice job! I say help em when you can. Those wretched yotes get enough of em.
Way to go buddy!
Thanks for posting this and doing it the right way Kenny. I'm retired now but as a game warden for 32 years you wouldn't believe how many calls I got from people that thought they were helping and all they did was pick up the fawn and make it an orphan. :clapper:

Thanks guys!
Ranger, for sure the last thing I wanted was to take him with me, my plan was to get him out of the water with no scent of me on him and leave. Thankfully he regained enough to make it on his own!!
Kenny, I'm surprised one of those 400 lbs Big Mouths didn't have him as a snack.
I give you Kudos for how you handled the situation by urging the fawn but still making it do its own work.
Seems some parents today could use that example, maybe their kids would turn out to be able to do something for themselves.... :knothead:
I've been trying to get some fawn pics on the trail cam this year but no luck. I have seen some tracks and some does who would not leave my sight so I assume some are around.
The fawn will remember, water can be a friend or foe. Great to see it make it on its own.
