Title: Jeffery Royal and Quillian Patriot?
Post by: thumper15 on June 26, 2014, 02:51:00 PM
Was looking over the Jeffery website and since they made the Archery Traditions Patriot I was wondering what the differences between the two bows are. If I remember right the Patriot is about the same design, but don't quote me on that.

Owen Jeffery built the Patriot for AT, so it wouldn't be surprising.

the patriot had a straight riser making it a little faster, was not as forgiveing as the hunter.

and I think all the AT bows had black glass...whereas Owen and Tom would use clear on their own.

they also made longbows and recurves for PSE...remember seeing quite a few when I was at their old shop near VA Hospital to buy my first recurve...Jeffery Royal Hunter.  :) ...back in 1990 or 1991.

Yep....she is on her third snakeskin actually..did the first while still living in Sumter back in early 90s.  It is a solid performer, reliable, stable....nothing fancy but a very consistent bow.

I had  Patriot some years ago.  Nothing fancy but it shot well.  Unfortunately I ordered it too heavy.  Mine had a dyed red riser and black glass limbs.

My first job was at Jeffery. I remember digging around in some old boxes and finding a few of those.

The only difference that I can recall was that the riser seemed a little bit slimmer. other than that virtually the same.

I actually have to run down and see Tom and Owen tomorrow to pick up an old Royal Hunter that I made with Owen when I was 16. My favorite bow!
Was just getting Tom to spray a fresh coat of finish on the 'ol guy.

I think the only difference was the limb bed angle. The Traveling Hunter may have been the same.

I remember reading all the reviews on Dan's old website about the Patriot and Canebrake. Long story short I got a Canebrake a few years ago off a tradganger but I never did buy a Patriot. I know the Canebrake shoots sweet though.

Seems I remember the Patriot had fast- flite limb tips  and an unattractive reddish-purple finish...I have the PSE Heritage Series "Raven"..bought new and got an extra set of limbs..Jeffreys bow ...ebony finish...

The ones Owen made were not FF. He never made a FF tip to my knowledge.

My Patriot is a faded reddish color and I had a Royal Hunter that was greenish actionwood  . My Patriot is 62" long but I believe the Royal was a little shorter ? Both shot really well and my Patriot was my go-to bow for many years .

Fastflite or not doesn't bother me. On their website the royal can be upto 64" and honestly I like 62"or longer. I had a 60" jeffery one piece, it shot well butwasn't very consistant for me. It was like a bear grizzly, the grip I could not get used to. The royal td grip should be better.
