There's lots of bows that are no longer being made because either the manufacturer has move on, passed on, or stopped the design. Is there any old design anyone would like to see available again?
Browning back packer II
Sovereign Ballistic recurve for sure.
I think the Pearson Cougar got a lot of people started in archery. It's a good design and if made without frills' it could do so again.
1. Forgewood hunting shafts.
2. Savage Deathmaster
3. Tice & Watts Recuve

x2 would love to see a 54" smooth speedy recurve
I thought Bud Boker was going to revitalize Bighorn. He was there and I got one of the last Bighorns while he was alive. I talked to him at Cloverdale that year and we talked about how much I enjoyed my bow. I think that was in 2002, not sure. Anyhow, it is a bow I will always have. I killed a bear with it in Maine just a few months after Bud passed.

Red Wing Hunter bows!

I'll add another vote for the Super Necadah. Had a right-hander that was really fun to shoot. I'd love to find a lefty in the mid-40# range.
MINISKIRTS! don't know where you're looking but they Havnt gone anywhere. I think you Havnt noticed them cause they've gotten MINI-er...
My vote is plain and simple bamboo backed bows,
Even in trad we've gotten a bit "techy" with foam core limbs and static limbs that act like cams. Etc...

I'll second that one. Bob had a one piece recurve in the Bob Lee custom lineup up until just a couple of years ago that appeared to be a very similar design to his old Red Wing Hunter, just a bit dressier. I got to hold one at his shop and it felt very close to my RWH, but never have shot one. But alas, he only builds takedowns now. Even the old school traditional builders are getting a little too high tech now. And that's coming from a 30 year old. :D I wanted to get a custom one piece Bob Lee built to match my old bow, but I guess I waited too late.

Browning Safari 58"
Browning Wasp 54"

Definitely not the Pearson Spoiler :scared:
Brown Bear Razorheads, not that they were any better than whats available today, but it's just everyone should have the opportunity to kill a deer with one.
One Piece MAII Black Widow & Micro Flight Shafts.
My "6 pack" I lost when I was 21!
My vote is for Bear to bring back the 67-69 Super Kodiak, any year is fine, love the added weight of the phenolic. Probably more then anything, I would like to see Bear bring back their custom shop.

Couple pics of a bow designed by Tracy ,and built under the old Ancient Spirits name of Mt Ash longbow , then under Tree's Custom bows as the Prickly pear ...by Tracy Trickett ....mine is 63" aggressive R/D design that is quick , smooth , and easily tuned to deathly silent .
To my knowledge Tracy no longer makes bows , but someone needs to reintroduce this bow !
I have shot MANY similar designs , and none are even close in quietness , smoothness , speed ,all in one package .... (http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p106/riverwolf01/PhotobucketPics283.jpg) (http://s126.photobucket.com/user/riverwolf01/media/PhotobucketPics283.jpg.html)

X-2..only no shorter and preferably 64".
Before my time, but I'd like to see Root Bows back. That's where the Necedah (great bow) came from.
The Kodiak Hunter is another great bow that is no longer made, but there really is no shortage of them available.
A Bear factory "replica" of the 60" and 64" 1969 Bear Super Kodiak, custom to draw weight and finish, would have people lining up on a 2 year waiting list for $799 per bow, myself included.
Also, if Bear made the 66" 1963 Kodiak Special with brown glass "'59 Kodiak" limbs or "Grayling Green", it'd be the bow guys with 29-30" draws and bigger hands wanted once they shot one. But for the white glass, the '63 Kodiak Special one of the a super bows of all time, as is the white limbed 1958 Kodiak. The '58 Kodiak, another bow, that if done in brown or green, would be a bow of legend.
I second the Redwing Hunter. Gave my dad one from **** a few years ago in 50# but would like one in 40#. I shot one years ago and it shot better than I did!
Funny thing about Groves. I found out a few years ago that my Aunt dated Harold Groves when I was younger.

common sense and common courtesy
I really am one to appreciate good humor, and all the input. But I have a good reason for asking questions like this. As I stated in the opening post, I was looking for BOW designs that aren't being made any longer and most of the replies reflected that. Some not even archery related, but again, I appreciate the humor, thanks, really, but it wasn't what I was after.
When it pertains to my Business, I often look to the opinions here on tradgang to give me ideas/directions.
Hey Mike, I didn't even notice that it was a bowyer that started this thread. I tried to come up with something funny to put on my first post the other day, but as it turns out, I'm not funny.
I noticed that several guys, myself included mentioned the good old Red Wing Hunter. I'd be glad to loan mine to you to use as a pattern. I'll also volunteer to test out your prototype for you. :D Let me have one with bocote riser, brown glass, and mid 40s @ 28" for three months and I'll get you some good feedback and maybe even sell a couple for you. I shoot with a couple of "old timers" that aren't on here (not internet compatible) that have a lot of experience with that model. One of them got me in to trad archery and the RWH was his first recommendation when I started looking at used bows.
Matt
I'd like to see the Baker treestands come back, they were great.NOT!!!
Mike, I will be curious as to what you might end up making.
I have always been a fan of the 60's style grizzlies. also The wing slim Ling and hunters were nice.
There was a bow from wisconsin Called Black Ram Traditions which is an incredible design.
60-62 Kodiak, 60"
64-65 Kodiak, 60"
60's Howatt Hunter, Diablo, or Mamba
60's Hoyt Hunter (1 pc. wood)
Timberline Longbow
The 67 Grizz was a sweet little bow also.
Quillian Longhunter longbow.
Great shooting longbows.
1969 Super Kodiak and the Bear mag risers.
Mike - as far as bows making a comeback I would like to see Bighorn take downs and Rocky Mountain Recurves(although Jess Stuart has already taken care of 1/2 of my dream request)
The American Sportsmen show
"the Bear mag risers"
x2 also. In machined aluminum, priced between 200-250.
When I first saw the initial post, I was thinking there was nothing much out there I would like to see make a comeback.
BUT, after 6 pages, WAS I WRONG!!!
All of you are offering something I like...even the humor...so keep it going.
Lon,
The one bow that won't be making a comeback is the 40lb 1964 Kodiak I got from you. ;)
That one is staying here with me, in Michigan. ;) :D
The Herters Catalog
My 68 GTO convertible
and for bows,
Rocky Miller's Bridger Mt. Longbow
Several mentioned Easton Autumn orange shafts . That would be awesome .
Also the Bear Magnums .
I would like to see bowhunting rules and definitions return to 1963!
I'm 30, so I'm sure I've missed out on a lot of bows that need to come back. But from my experiences and the bows I own that are no longer in production....
Red Wing Hunter...small tips, early 60's model. Perfect grip, light in the hand, and fast.
Sovereign Ballistik....just an awesome bow! Fastest bow I've ever shot...but on the downside, the least forgiving of form/release errors.
Bob Lee Signature "Stick"
Sweetlands
"the Bear mag risers"
x2 also. In machined aluminum, priced between 200-250.
Ditto
the original trebark.

I'd like to see more use of coloured glass, brown and green specifically. The Great Northern bows on the back of TBM look spectacular with green glass!
The tan Bear Razorheads.
I'll throw one more out there. Not sure if this counts as a "bring it back" or just a simple request, but anyway.
Companies like Howard Hill and a few others offer unfinished, tillered blanks of popular models. I'd like to see that option available for a youth bow. I have made a habit of building my boy a Christmas gift each year. First year was a Baltic birch rocking horse, last year was a chalkboard/whiteboard easel. Not sure what this year will bring, but I am thinking next year, he'll be just over 3 and a longbow may be appropriate. I do not have the shop space nor the time to build forms and ovens but would love to have a hand in crafting him a laminated glass bow like Dads!

not to derail, but I coach a competitive 12 year old girls "kids" fastpitch softball team and the parents that are courteous and have common sense have kids with similar traits. Let's just say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
And to get back on track, I too wish Curved Bed Bighorns with plain brown limbs and a bombproof finish were still available

Common sense game management, Seasons that are not mixed with other things. Hunting ethics that shouldn't have to be taught in a class and more families doing things together. Woodsman ship and outdoor skills that have been lost with high tech stuff. The list is to long for old bows that were neat. Hunting gear made in this country......I could go on and on............ :dunno: I do like the old Bear Grizzlies. Just a good simple bow.

my youth - and more people doing things cos it is just the right thing to do, not cos they want people to applaud. I figure this applies to hunting, communities, being neighbourly, environmentalism and almost everything else.
I want healthy kids to come back. There are too many kids out there who won't be able to enjoy some of the best experiences life has to offer because they are too fat, unfit and afraid to try something that doesn't involve being on the couch.
Shorter versions of the old Grizzlys. I personally find this thread very interesting.
1964 bear polar 66" It was known as the do everything bow. It was a great looking bow, draws and releases smooth, quiet and it shot like it had eyes. If those bows were made with todays technology (fast fight strings etc) I would buy one. In fact I would buy one even if they were made like they were. I had one that didn't have the best of care and it finally broke a few years back. I had more confidance in that bow than any bow I have.

I'm 52, but I remember in the late 60's and early 70's when everything about hunting, and bowhunting in particular, was simple and seemed almost magical (at least to a boy).
What do I really miss?
-Tagging along when I was under 10 years of age with a dad who brought me to the wild places that I developed a love for. He was young and strong and full of energy. And then hunting with him thru the years as we both got older and sharing so many fine days afield. He is into Alzheimer's now, and the magic of those days is just a memory.
-the smells of archery from back then: burnt cork, cedar arrows, glue, leather boots, early Fall in the WI woods. WWII camp from Herters.
-When just seeing a deer, any deer, was exciting beyond words and when someone finally did kill a deer it was the talk of the town.
-just the overall simplicity of bowhunting before videos, all the "experts' and gadgets, TV hunting, etc.
-Herters catalogs and my very first dozen "hunting" arrows from them. My dad got them for me for Christmas. 28" cedar, Bear razor heads, yellow shafts. I still have 2 of them (used but priceless).
-hunting rabbits with a bow around industrial park and cemetery overgrown fields. (A kid would be arrested for that now).
But I am happy to say that in many ways, Trad archery today keeps me linked to those great memories.
