Post by: DanielB89 on June 22, 2014, 05:39:00 PM
May i ask why someone would use a feather rest?  (i have never seen or used one).

Its basically like an elevated rest, right?

I like to point out that the first two featherests I saw and used cost me a thousand dollars...of course they came attached to a nice pair of completely original 1960 Bear Kodiaks...I am sure they will wear out one day but not soon by the way they appear...all the new Bear Kodiaks come with a featherrest

I look at a featherest as being between shooting off the shelf and an elevated rest. I have never tried one as of yet but have been thinking about giving it a whirl lately, just to try it out and see.

If you do search of my posts and look for one in the History/Collecting forum titled "1960 Kodiaks" you will see the pictures of the two original rests on my bows

Feather rests are a type of elevated rest.  There are several reasons to use one - all the same reasons as an elevated rest plus they were used quite a bit in the late 1950's and early 1960's so they look period correct on vintage bows.  This is why Bear uses them on their new '59 Kodiak replica.

They function very well.  They hold up in weather, and they look better than a plastic weather rest.  Although...I like the way my weather rests shoot...

I put one on my new Wind Warrior and they are a little forgiving if you have a bad release. A little organic cushion plunger in the vertical axis.

Just put one on my PCH and love it. I'll pick up a couple for back up... but so far it looks like it will hold up well.

I've put about 60 arrows across it and it doesn't show any wear at all.
