Title: Archery Ranges near Waterford, MI
Post by: Mike89 on June 21, 2014, 09:47:00 AM
Hey everyone,

I just moved to Waterford, Michigan from Colorado and I'm looking for a place to shoot.  So far, the closest place I've found is the range in the Bass Pro Shop in Auburn Hills, which is close to my work, but it's not really what I'm looking for.

I was just curious to see if any of you in the area know about anything the Google machine won't tell me.  I know there's the Royal Oak Archers in Lake Orion, and I've been thinking about checking that out, but if anyone has any insight it would be appreciated.  Thanks

Mike

Royal Oak is a great range, where I cut my teeth in the early 70's.  Detroit Archers is not too far for you and then there are a number of clubs to the south like Lincoln bowmen.  You should also look up sportsman congress as there are a few sportsman's club by you that have great archery ranges outdoors and indoors.  One in Clarkston and one in Rochester.  Been 30 years since I live down state so things may have changed a bit.

I am a member of Lincoln Bowmen and can tell you it is a great group of people.

A ride for you though.

Winter Trad league on Tuesday evenings. THAT would be worth the ride.

Through conversations with others, I have heard GREAT things about Royal Oak Archers as well.

Check out the Michigan Bow Hunters Association web site, they have a list of clubs within your district as well as other districts.

Thanks guys, looks like helpful info.  I left colorado with about 3 shootable arrows, so as soon as my next batch comes in, I'll start trying stuff out

You are within joining distance of Land O Lakes Bowmen in Fenton.  The finest trad archery club anywhere.  LF

Land O Lakes in Fenton is a GREAT club, by far the best traditional-friendly club in the area. As noted, they have 3D on Thursday evenings.

Oakland County Sportsman's Club is right around the corner from you and I believe they have 3D shoots on Tuesday/Wednesday nights through the summer. Detroit Sportsmans Congress in Utica has a 3D course open Saturdays and Sundays. There are a bunch of other clubs within 30 minute drive (Detroit Archers, Multi Lakes, Royal Oak Archers, Fenton Lakes, Flint Bowmen, etc) that have monthly 3D shoots and various league options.

A little bit south of you, in Hamburg, is the Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club. We have the range open to the public every Sunday, it's a very nice course. I will be there this Sunday if you want to get together and fling a few arrows.

Mike,
In addition the ranges I mentioned in my PM, there is also a range at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area.  Not a club or leagues, just an outdoor target range near the rifle/pistol range.
