I see posts on Velcro and of course leather, and seal skin for side plates. But I have a bow that seems to shoot best with nothing. I am next going to try to find the thinnest piece of leather or whatever to try.
The only negative I have noticed is the noise when drawing it and perhaps a slight bit more on the release. Am I missing anything else here?
Thanks, Gary
Several years ago, I had a bow where I wanted a thinner side plate. I cut a piece of cloth camo tape and stuck it on. Worked okay. Seemed to solve the noise problem.
Have not tried it yet but I was thinking a thin coat of Goop or Shoe Goo might work...I have a couple of dual shelf bows that work well on the bare wood

Or a thin piece of moleskin? Self adhesive.
Perhaps a thin piece of wool.??
I usually clean the shelf very well, and just use the self adhesive calf hair rest. They work great, look great, and they are cheap.
Felt furniture pads. You can get different thickness, some thinner than calf hair.
If the velcro is too thick, I second the moleskin.

whoops, double post
Thanks for the suggestions. In experimenting with this bow, I seem to do best with no side plate, so I was looking for something very thin ( for less noise than against bare wood)
I think I will try the moleskin idea or maybe sealskin.
Thank you for your ideas,
Gary

I have used Prince brand leather tennis racquet grip wrap. If you cut a 1.5" piece and mount it vertically, you will be able to have it lie with almost no thickness. One underside comes pre- beveled, bevel the other underside with a razor blade, attach with double sided tape, and you will find it to be very quiet and unobtrusive. I have also installed a toothpick under the leather, vertically, to adjust for arrows showing weak.
Calf hair side plates are thin.

I'll third that. Moleskin is a very good option too as others have said. Seal skin is fluffier than you'd think.
You can find pigskin that is very thin and almost indestructible.
