I've been in a bit of scramble lately...
I've decided I want to hunt with a bow that I made.
Was able to last year and it was fun.
...that bow however is shot out..
$$$ been real tight and I've been outta a bow for about 4 months.
I built one a while back that was doing great but it popped on me..( I still have much to learn).
I've come to the hard realization that I'm not going to be able to save up for another build before the season...and if that bow broke..omg..lol
Anyway, I was lucky enough to pick up a 1970 56" 50# Bear Grizzly...at an obscenely low price.
Got a perfect string from Josh...super fast..super quality.
Put some bow hush and hush puppies on her.
..that wool from them is just unreal. I'm a long time rubber whisker guy. I've put hush puppies on 3 bows now...they just rock..period.
Also..I'm a long time "hater" of recurves. Not that they're bad..I just despise having to keep up on the limb padding.
Enough so that it's the reason I switched to long bows.
This was my first time using bow hush.
It's easy to install. Has held up fine for about 300 shots so far.
I really can't see any wear on the stuff. It's quiet too..and I'm a picky SOG.
If the bow hush works as well after another 1000 shots or so I just might change my mind about recurves being too much fuss.
The wool SILENCED this bow.
Pulled some beman 500's outta the bin that were set up for a 45# whip I used to have. After cutting about 1.75" off them, they fly perfect with a 300 grain point.
End up with a 558 grain total arrow.
11.16 gpp
(28.26% FOC lol)
Going to tip it with a 3 blade VPA.
Thing is..without this site I wouldn't be having any of this fun.
..I just plain wouldn't even know where to start.
LET"S GO HUNTING!
And without this site, where would you post all the trophy pics this fall?
...it is kinda cool to have a bragging board...
..maybe someday I'll get to post on it...lol
I think those 56" Grizzlies are highly Under rated! :readit:
Glad to hear the BowHush is doing its job...it usually does.
Thanks. :campfire:
Every Bear recurves I have including 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959 Kodiak and 1971 Super Kodiak have Bow Hush and Hush Puppies. They're also on my A handle take down from 2014. Nothing better in my opinion for recurves.
Good pick up on the Grizzly-extremely underrated bows.
