Here's a subject thats been breeched on here before but each bow has its own unique set of issues, so here I go with mine..!! My 59' Kodiak repro...47#@ 28"...Which is my draw length...60" Holcomb 1959 Kodiak is a stellar shooting recurve. It came with standard tiller which I figured was fine. However, I discovered 3 fingers under about the time I recieved it and shot it this way very accurately but it was noisey. I tried compensating by raising my nock point and going to a traditional feather rest, which gets me an additional 1/4"-5/16" above shelf height. Im even nock pointed 3/8" above the rest..!! Arrow flight is great...no porpoising..! I even replaced
part 2.....I even replaced the 14 strand B-50 with an SBD 10 strand fast flight....with rubber cat whiskers. Raised brace to as high as 8 1/2" and put velcro on the tip curves......still get a high pitced buzz-thump....and it AGGRIVATES me....any help here...!!???? Thanx in advance.....john
I forgot to mention that it also had rubbet cat whiskers AND string leeches..!!! it looked like an Amish clothesline..!! A loud amish clothesline..!!! FRUSTRATING!......

John, try shooting it split fingered to see if it makes any difference. If so then the bow just may be loud shooting 3 under. I do like homemade woolie puffs though.
How much do your arrows weigh?
How are your string silencers located?
Sounds like you've added all sorts of extra weight in the form of string silencers and velcro. I'd start by taking everything off then play with brace height and arrow weight until you get it as quiet as it will go. All that weight you added in silencers and velcro (and then some) needs to be put into arrow weight were it will do some good down range. Once you get things tuned and quieted as much as you can, measure your string length and divide by three. For example, if your bow uses a 54" string, 54 divided by 3=18. Install some fur or wool silencers 18" from each end. You can also divide by 4. 54รท4=13.5 install 4 silencers spaced 13.5" apart. I prefer the divide by three method.

I find wool puffs work best with the SBD strings and I have had best results with fewer strands-you sould go down to six. Finally 3 under will always produce a bit more noise no matter if it is tillered for 3 under or not. My son shoots 3 under and we did all this and went to a different tab and the set up works extremely well now.
John, have you tried putting your silencers on asymetrically? Try the upper one on the 1/4s and the lower one on the 1/3s. This way you're cancelling out two nodes. It's worked for me on some noisy ones. Also what is your total arrow weight?

Thanks for the tips gentlemen...!!! I have shot as light as 9gpp and as heavy as 13gpp....the heavier arrows are quieter, but still thumpy/buzzy. I will try both methods of silencer placement...see which helps most...as per Dave Bulla and my old buddy Mahantango. Did have the "woolie whispers on it already too..! I figured that feather rest would elevate me futher above the shelf and help compensate for the ringfinger being located futher down the bowstring..??? helping balance out the tiller.....???? Is my thinking skewed here..??? And Reddogge, I did shoot it some split....I just don't shoot as consistantly splitfingered..! I will try all advice administed to me......And Jeff B...I tried those foam ear puffs as string silencers and they worked great!!!! I just put one in each ear...thanks guys.....Jackdaw

Paul, Total arrow weight on my carbons is just over 500 grains...225 grains up front......550 on my woodies...145 up front..
John, I didn't mean to switch your shooting method, just shoot the bow split finger a few times to see it if is quieter. If so you have identified part of the problem. I'd still shoot as you like though.
As I read your post, I remembered I read on Pronghorn's site that Herb Meland said that some people do well with 6 3/4" brace height and some people need to go to 9" (with his longbow). I realize it is a different bow, but could it be as simple as still too low of a brace height? ( buzz at the release)
