Title: Bear Black Bear info please (yr made and brace height)?
Post by: skychief on June 14, 2014, 10:48:00 PM
I bought a Bear 'Black Bear' at Cloverdale today.

It is serial number KL17421.

Can any of you please tell me the year it was made and what brace height they usually prefer?

It is 40# @ 28".   I'm tickled to have it replace my 1970 vintage Grizzly that delaminated a couple weeks ago.

Any and all information much appreciated.  Thanks for you effort and sharing, Skychief.

After some snooping around, I am betting the serial number will be of little or no use in dating the bow.   Looks like 1972-1978 were the years of production.

Still look forward to any comments regarding brace height recommendations or anything else about the Black Bears.

Thanks!

Try a brace height of 7 1/2 inches.

Going to be hard to nail down between those years, especially with that model.

They are not collected much, they were "lower end", but still really great bows that shoot well.  They were considered lower end because the riser is generally "just" maple.

Post a picture of the coin and the serial # on the History and Collecting forum.  Some one over there might be able to help.

Brace likely 7.5-8.5.  I would start just shy of 8"
