My son (7) and daughter (9) just had their first archery experience at a recent Scout camp and loved it, of course. I am hoping to get them out to the range and shoot more this summer before the high wears off. ;)
What kind of bow do you recommend for their first at that age? I don't know the poundage of what they were shooting at camp but they seemed to handle it pretty well. It can be something pretty simple since I would be happy just to get out and hit some paper targets at 15 yds or whatever.
What have you done for your kids' first bows?

Mike (B) makes a great little bow.
I have bows made by both bowyers. Either are great.
15-20lbs at 24 is what I would target for weight until they grow.

You could also pick up some PVC pipe and some 1/4 inch wood dowels to make some archery gear. There are a ton of how to articles floating around the internet. :archer2:

I just bought a Maddog on the St Jude's auction which I hope will be just the ticket for my 7-yr old granddaughter :)
Used Lil Bears off ebat and I made 1/4 and 5/16 cedar arrows. As they grew they got used Grizzlies and made their own cedar arrows. :archer:
PSE has a nice little recurve and I think you can get the limbs alone of need be
Check with Mike over at MadDog bows, very nice bows and a great guy to deal with.
A coworker of mine said he is going to give me a couple of bows Saturday one of them is a Ben Pearson youth bow. they go for about 80 bucks on ****. ill let you know how i like it and how my girlfriends daughter likes it she's 8.
My youngest shoots St. Joe River Bows - he did a trade in last year and it applies like half the money of the old bow to the new - I found this to be a can't loose system. Kid loves his longbows. Kids grow fast!
Elk Ridge Archery....does a trade in program.....kept bow #1 but we traded up from bow #2 to bow #3 this past winter....always have had very good service and pleasant experience when dealing with Elk Ridge Archery....
