Title: New bow just finished with PICS
Post by: warden415 on September 22, 2007, 06:14:00 PM
Well I just put the finish on yesterday on a new bow I built. It is 56" 47@25" Bow is 53" nock to nock strung. It is a bocote riser with gray and black fiberglass stripes. Heel is gaboon ebony and has bocote and osage accents. Tips are bocote with gray and black glass as is the thumbrest. Cores are bamboo with stained red elm veneers. This one shoots better than the previous 3 I have made. A little quicker through the chrono but much less handshock, Actually I am happy with the way this one shoots for me. I'm glad this one is done finally as bow season is fast approaching and I am glad to put the bow making stuff away for awhile and start concentrating on hunting. Here are several pics, I hope they are sized right? Steve

Excellent!  Looks a lot like a Centaur (and that's high praise).  Too bad you screwed and put the rest on the wrong side.     ;)      :wavey:

Woody, thanks for the compliment. It is modeled after the Centaur. I own a few Centaurs and they are GREAT bows. Thats why I am having a hard time being satisfied with mine, I am trying to compare them to Jim's bow and that is a steep task! I just got a new double carbon centaur last week and it is hard to shoot the ones I have made when I just got a new Centaur. Although I am looking forward to taking an animal with something I have made. Jim has been a great help to me while trying to figure out this learning curve on bow making.  He has given me invaluable advice and ideas from his years of experience that have helped me out imensely. Sweet looking bow. But watch that guy in the 7th picture, I think he's letting the air out of your bike's tire!

That's a beauty! I like the way you did the radius shelf kinda radical. Those thumb rests feel pretty good, don't they? Great job. Mike

Shane, the season comes in here Oct 01 in the city. I about have everything ready to go. Bodork thanks for the compliment, getting praise from you is humbling after seeing some of the bows you turn out!!! I got her tuned in today and plan on going shooting with a few buddies in the morning to see how the arrows fly at a little longer distances. Steve
