Back on September 9th I got a PM from a member called Edmund. He has only one post on the site and is more of a reader than participant here(which is soon to change ;) ). The PM was titled "A Little Help". He lives about an hour from me and has been hunting with trad bows for four years and has yet to kill or even see a deer in the woods while hunting since he moved back to VT 2 years ago. I invited him to come down to my house for the day today and spend some time squirrel hunting and scouting for a little deer 101.
The only gray squirrel we say was one we almost hit with the truck so a stump shoot broke out instead.

We spoke about feeding, bedding and staging areas. Funnels and edges were a big focus, mainly building confidence in staying the course in a good spot.

We went back to my house and shot some bows and did a little release work. Bernie here is the obligatory full draw pic and you have permission to use it sir.

He shoots a Wing Hunter right now but he seems to have been infected by my Griffin when he shot that. I had to watch him carefully as he left with some arrows and a back-quiver I gave him to be sure the Griffin stayed in Rutland. lol

All in all it was a great Saturday and we'll be doing it again soon. Though I could have lived without it being 85 degrees out. :D
Hey, I know that worn out spot in the grass! Edmund, you've latched on to a good teacher, you'll do well......Nice bow on that tree too Dave, looks like it was a good time. Can't believe you'd think anyone would leave your house with one of your bows..... :D
David
Cool beans Bro!
Thought you might recognize the arrow in the stump David. We did see one real nice buck at my place near the sunset chair. Oh, Edmund we need to work on getting your elbow down a little more level next time once you get the release polished up. :)
Donny will recognize the Shawnee too, it is the reason you got your's David. lol
Sounds like a great way to spend the day.
looking good edmund,,,you're in good hands with david  david sir,,,you are a cut above bro!
Nothing better than having a brother of the bow to shoot with. Looks and sounds like a super day in the woods! :campfire: Squirrel or no squirrel!
Brent
You're right there Brent. Edmund won't be able to respond until tomorrow though. He only has internet access at work right now.

So busy looking at the bow Dave that I missed the arrow! Had to go back and look again.....
That is one heck of a quiver, too! Who made that?
I sure could use some more days out in the woods going after deadly stumps. Dang work, anyway. :campfire:
Donny is who I got it from Kathy. The strap wasn't big enough to fit over anything more than a T-Shirt on me so I passed it onto a fellow who could put it to proper use. He carried it stumping all day and was a happy archer.
Nice thing to do Vermonster. If it werent for guys like you(and Shawn, and Mcgroundstalker, and everyone else I have met so far in the trad "circle"), I doubt I would be trad at all. Thanks from another newish newbie for making this sport that much more accessible to us.
:bigsmyl:
way to go mate
VM13,that was a real fine thing you did today. :notworthy:
It was a blast and a farm hand just happened to give me a lead on some cornfield raiding bears. :bigsmyl:
Great story! :)
Mark
Not sure, that may be one of Shell's quivers, or it could have been made by a dear lady named Barb who graced this site with her quick wit but was called home by the Creator, very untimely, a couple of years ago.
Now that I have seen the strap on the quiver, I know for a fact it was made by Barb.
Danny
Great "work" VTm. If I was still up in that neck o' the woods I'd love to have you take this "young toxiophile" under yer wing too (no jokein'). I know Edmund will benefit in many ways, from his time spent with you. I have "stolen" (with your pre-permission) Edmund's Full Draw pic (I am still waiting for your's, you know) and he can see it, as well, on Page 14 of my TBD pages, with the rest of us "Trad Bownuts". (In a matter of minutes, that is.)
