Title: A good bow for a 6 and 7 yr old?
Post by: Houska on June 02, 2014, 09:59:00 PM
My kids have been using a bow I made out of PVC and I think it's time they move up in craftsmanship. What is a good bow for kids (6 & 7). I don't want to spend a lot because I am sure they will grow out of it in a year or two. Does anyone have one laying around they would get rid of for a descent price.

Thanks Matt Houska

I would highly recommend a Mad dog 'pup' from Mike Mecredy.  He is a sponsor here and makes great bows, and especially nice ones in youth sizes.

St. Joe River. Both my kids shoot them.

My 2 daughters shoot Mad Dog bows.  The 8 year-old has shot a 48" Pup longbow for 2 years.  The 5 year-old has shot a 36" Pup recurve, also for 2 years.    She was just out shooting it tonight.  I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Another good one to look at is Black Rhino. They also have a "trade up" program so you don't have to pay full price when they outgrow the bow. I think a few of the other youth bow companies offer similar programs, but I don't know for sure, so I won't list all the others.

St. Joe River makes some awfully nice lookin' ones too, and they MAY be one of the ones with trade-up options. But I'm not positive.

Yeah you can't go wrong with the St Joe River bow. Dave and Tracy are top notch people and will do everything in their power to meet your needs.

St. Joe River Bows. As mentioned Dave and Tracey are top shelf folks to deal with.

St. Joe River Bows - my youngest did the trade in program over the winter (his 2nd bow), I have yet to post a thread on it - it's sweet!

All of the above mentioned are great, you can't go wrong. My kids grew up on Black Rhinos then moved on to vintage Ben Pearson and Wings. I think it's fantastic that there so many quality choices in kids bows. By the way, Dryad makes one too.

I need a lefthand for a 5 yr old girl, my grandaughter, if anyone has one to sell.
