Me and two of the F.R.O.G members went on a tactical frog Search and Recovery mission last night, and while going mud hole to mud hole and contending with a gator this was part of our results.

In all 13 were taken, the other 5 I don't have pic's of, hopefully Ole Possum Head will post up. His sack had a couple of nice specimens also.
Nice outing. Tastes like chicken??
I grew up with a pond about 50 yards behind the house. I miss the sounds of the pond.
Yep, just like Chicken :biglaugh:
good mess of frogs,
good thing they don't taste like chicken, it wouldn't be worth stompin around in the dark for them.
I thought we had more than that , we had a good night though .... Good pics John you & Kirk were spot on last night ....
...........That's a good mess of frog legs . Just need some perch and hush-puppies ;)
What's the bow ? Looks like a Big Jim Buff ?
Being a "family site" can you tell us what the acronymn F.R.O.G stands for??? :knothead:
i was hoping for some tales of the gator...title hooked me...
FROG
Fort Riley Outdoorsman Group
Doc Noc and Keith you have to go back to last years 2013 stories to get the history of F.R.O.G. The team consist of 3 original members and a fourth was added later in the year.
I could just tell you but its more fun to get you to read my stories  Here the links so you don't get to mad at me...

Awesome !!!! If would have got everything we shot at we would have had about 20 I think ...
Why is it that water is always i/2" deeper than my boots are tall? Great trip for unfamiliar territory.
Come on, tell us about the Gator.
I'd be more afraid of the Gators I did not see....
And how do you prepare your Frog legs.
i have GOT to get up with you gents one night. my parents live in Pascagoula (i grew up there), and i get green with envy every time i read about y'alls adventures!
plus, i love frog legs. Mmmmm, mmm good!
Congrats !!! That Centaur sure did a number on the frogs. Really like the looks of the beavertail grip.
Bill
Mike,
The story line on the Gator was that as we were in new waters, and the frogs were hanging out in the flooded grass with a couple of gators near by.
I could see the eyes of at least one and it was probably a 5 footer but hard to tell, still I was in his house and robbing his refrigerator :scared:
One of the main reason my pards submitted to me being the Ultimate Supreme Leader of the F.R.O.G team is I have the best Light.
So with my Light I was wading in the 17" of water and kept telling the buds "You watch the Gator I'll locate the Frogs".
This was going good until....Possum Head stepped on a frog and it shot through the water into the side of my boot. I let out one of those Jerry Clower aAAHHHHhh and said where's that Gator!
I can handle snake somewhat but the thought of a mama gator coming off a high bank at near midnight is downright scary.
Johnny,
Your more than welcome to come with us, PM me sometimes to work it out.
Mike,
Also I did several "How To's" last year on how to make a frog gig point, how to clean them, and how to cook and eat them. Here's the links

You've been generous with your time and sharing talent...!
You guys got the best nicknames going! Possum head--- good lordy!
I don't be thinking I'd want to be that close to a stinkin Gator in 17" of water... I don't move that good anymore!
Doc Nock
Your nickname would fit right in with us Southern boys and you could be an honorary member of the F.R.O.G team. We'd make you the dedicated scribe :readit:
South MS, would you mind telling us what conditions, times of night, etc that you are going? I tried down here last night in a little pond in the woods but we couldn't get on them. Ive been seeing some huge ones during the day while looking for snakes. we got one during the day that was big.

WEll, now... that would be a HONOR I'd wear proudly... alas, I'm skert of snakes and gators, too!
Come on Doc you know you want to :goldtooth:
Chris,
What we look for are dead lakes off the river, Oxbows that fill up during the river flood stage but have no inlet or outlet. We have used Google to locate these in the local WMA's. Any body of water without a current or very little has the potential to hold frogs.
The frog will lay there eggs here and grow and mature. We also look for food sources, here it is mainly craw fish, much like patterning deer or any other animal, find water, food and cover.
These big frogs from what I have researched are at least 5 years old. The Google searches on their life cycle stated that it takes 5 years for the bullfrog to reach mating maturity and they can live to be 8 to 13 years old.
We have not been able to get back into our main honey hole due to the extremely wet spring and high water levels in the swamp. Once we do I will be able to see if we have had a big negative impact on their population.
If so we will have to find new waters and give these areas a rest.
Wow, no kidding! I had no idea that they could be near that age!
Yea, you're right, John, I DO want to... but now that I got the time, no travel money...but it would be a flippin HOOT to just be around you guys...
Talk about a "tenderfoot" among the unwashed...that would be ME! I can see no end to the possibilities of pranks played on one poor dumb Yankee! :knothead:
I'm sure there are many versions of our local "snipe hunt" shenanigans in the S'uthin repertoire!
Chris,
I failed to answer part of your questions. As for the time, we prefer to go at night and usually it is soon after sunset, but to me it seems that things don't really get coaking :D till around 10:00 pm or later.
Our normal time out is about 3 hours due to my buds being old and can't handle the extreme conditions required to be a F.R.O.G team member. And that is another reason why I'm the Ultimate Supreme leader of the team
Doc,
Now we country boys would not subject you northern tendfoots to any shenanigan's due to frogging is a tough sport to take up, and we alway say that "You have to be Tough to be a F.R.O.G team member!
OK, thank you sir

yeah, yeah, yeah... I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, John! Only difference tween a Yankee and a DAX@ Yankee is one sticks around longer!
Course, if'n ya'll want to hear a 6'2" 200# male scream like a girl, just yell SNAKE!
I was chest deep in a trout stream fly fishing when a water snake (good size) headed right for me... thinking like he might want to crawl in my waders...
I snicked him behind the neck sticking outa the water as he swam with my glass rod tip, and broke his neck...and my buds say at that I actually levitated and walked on water to the bank and proceeded upstream a half mile! I think they exaggerated!
:biglaugh:  Doc, frogging is a relatively safe sport its just that no one told the swamp critters!
The other white meat!
Looks like chicken!
Heading out in a few minutes, Warren want to go, he seen our last batch and it stirred him up :bigsmyl:
