I was fortunate enough to get a decent bear last Wednesday hunting with Ron Dare and Bear Track Outfitters. Awesome hunt, just like last year with lots of bear sightings and everyone in camp having opportunities with a 90% going home with a bruin. One of the most exciting bears taken was not the largest but the most unique for sure. Ron has photos of this bear for 4 years carrying this 220 and it was shot 16 miles from the most recent photo 3 days earlier. I helped Ron skin this bear and although the jaw was really buggered up he was obviously feeding and healthy.
I was the only one in camp with a trad bow and most were hunting with rifles so my sanity and the bows ability was in question until my bear went down as quickly as most of the rifle kills.
Sitting on a new bait in a new area that Ron acquired recently I was the first to hunt this area and actually helped set up the bait and hang the stand. Barrel had only been there 1.5 weeks and there were defined bear trails coming in already. First saw this boar at 5:30 and shot him at 7:30 - he was on the bait for 1.5hrs. I decided he was my bear if nothing else came in before he got his fill. As he started away from the bait on the trail he came in on I was able to slip an arrow into the ribs on a strong quartering shot that punched right through taking lungs and heart stopped by the off leg bone. Bear huffed and ran straight away out of site and climbed a big tree before moaning his last sounds and falling out.
I hung my bow up and went to find him while I still had daylight before walking the 2.5 miles out of the bush with a big smile. Took a moment with the bear thanking the Gods of the hunt and snapped a couple pics to show Ron at the truck.
Bow is my little 56" Jess Stuart RMR knock off recurve 45@25". Arrow was an AD Trad Lite with a Wensel Woodsman on the business end.

Great thanks for sharing!!!
Wow. Congrats!
I too had a bear come in with a trap on its bottom jaw. It was a cub with a 110 on it on a fall Manitoba hunt. Seemed too to be getting along.
Congrats again!

   Congrats on the nice bear...
Nice Bear Bobby, congrats
Very nice!
Thanks all - and for the record my intentions for showing the bear with the trap was just to show the resilience of wildlife and not to get anyone riled up. It seems to be taken as such here but on another archery site I frequent it has been under scrutiny. Unfortunately that site does not allow me to take down a post so it still remains although I ask mods to remove the thread.
Just so everyone knows: This has been a target bear for obvious reasons for as long as it has been documented and Ron Dare and all that work for his outfit were very pleased each year to see it still made it(somehow) and most pleased that a hunter was able to put it down with a quick clean shot.
Honestly I am glad it never showed at any of my bait sites with me there because it was not a huge bear but I personally could not pass.
Everything worked out for the best in a strange and unfortunate situation.
Bob
