Title: Favorite point weight on carbon arrow for 48-50 lb bows
Post by: Jack Hoyt 75 on May 21, 2014, 10:24:00 PM
Curious of your favorite/preferred field point or BH weight on a 3555GT or 500 carbon arrows out of a 48 up to 50 lb bows?

Have been shooting 145 gr. field tips with alum. inserts for a while and like them.  Have 150 gr. screw in BH.  That is ok but considering going with little heavier BH and switching to single bezel.

So bought a couple different BH's in glue on and screw in, adapters, brass and alum. inserts, field point weight test kit, etc all in different weight combos and about to start doing some testing, experimenting and tuning to figure out what is best for my setup.  Yes I know point weight affects spin, may need to change arrow lenght, FOC, importance of tuning and all that.

I am just curious what point weights and why others have found to be best in this weight range of bows?  Seems like for a single bezel I am going to have to be in the 165 to 225 range for tip weight with head and adaptor.

Plan on hunting deer and maybe some hogs.  Thanks for your opinions.

I like 100gr inserts with 125 heads. That easily gets you field points, judo points, small game heads and blunts, and broadheads of all identical weight. It lends itself towards the performance of a heavy head and high FOC build, and parts are easy to source. It's appropriate for anything from rabbit to elk.

I'm shooting same weight bows with carbon express 150's 30" in length. Using grizzly 185gr or grizzly Instinct 190gr with a 50gr brass insert. I practice with 250gr field points and don't worry about the 10-15 grain difference. I also go with the 100gr. inserts to use a multitude of small game heads in the 140gr. weight range.

I would use the one that flys the best.

Having said that, starting with a longer arrow and about 200+ g up front should be a deadly combination.

I shoot GT 3555's out of my bows which are 47-50#@28". I like 250 gr up front. Last year I shot 150gr Stinger 4blades with a 100gr brass insert.  This year I decided to give 175gr Simmons Tiger Sharks a try so I put in a 50gr brass insert with a 20gr screw on weight and a 5 gr washer behind the head to give me 250gr up front.
