I know the old style is a little longer than the elites. Anybody notice a significant difference between the two regarding performance? The elites are so much more expensive, so I was thinking about giving the old style a try? Thx in advance.
I've only ever used the old style but have never had a problem . If that helps
I have only ever used the Elites and Love them!!! Widow
After reading all the reviews and asking people here, I purchased the "old style" if your concerned there are videos out there on how to sharpen and change the point to what I believe is called a chisel point.
What is it you want to hear to make you pay more for the elites?
if you are wanting screw in I would go with the elites, ive bent the blades of the old ones right by the vent and if you get elites you don't have to buy adapters or glue and true them. for screw ons ill never buy the old ones again. its not that much money. and how many do you realy think you will be going through. I bought 3 and have killed 4 and still have 2 only because I didn't want to dig in a stinky carcass to find the lost one.
In my opinion the old style is still the best broadhead on the market! Very affordable, super easy to sharpen, and when properly sharpened they blow through animals like nobody's business! Love em'!!
I would go with the old style. I have never damaged one on any deer or pig I've shot with them or seen them damaged by errant shots into trees. Of the two I have damaged one was buried all the way into a tree after a miss and I got a little careless and frustrated after 30 minutes of trying to get it out of the oak tree. The other, well lets just say it involves a spectacular miss while shooting here at the house that hit an errant hard object.
I like the new ones quite a few improvements for your money no doubt, but I find myself mostly shooting the originals. Buy one pack of each you'll have 9 heads to use, that'll last you a while.
Ditto on Longbow's comments. The old style is a terrific head. I see no reason to shoot anything else. I've killed 5 whitetails with the same head and would keep on doing so, but I finally lost it on the forest floor.
what about Snuffers? They fall in between the two woodsman varieties in terms of price. I find them easier to sharpen though and they leave a bigger hole and a heck of a blood trail.
I've taken a lot of deer with the originals. I usually keep about 20 arrows with them tuned and sharpened. The biggest pain is sometimes getting them to spin straight, but once they are true, you're good to go. I can't see ever switching to anything else.
I use the old Snuffers and the Woodsman and never had a problem with how the heads performed or took an edge. The only way I'd use the Elites or any of the other high $$ broadheads is if someone gave them to me. I can't justify the prices on some of these broadheads for my use when the old style works just fine.
the originals are great in every way.
the elites are to high dollar for me. plenty of good 3 blades for less money
I love the original woodsman heads, but after a recent hog hunt, i believe i'm going to go to a single bevel Grizzly this year. The woodsmans work excellent if your shot placement is good.... But i want a little more bone splitting power for those shots that get to far forward, or hit those heavy elk ribs just wrong. I wont hunt hogs again with a 3 blade broadhead.
I shot a hog in Florida with elites, excellent performance. I couldn't afford the elites this season and shot a nice tom turkey with the originals... It came down to cost for me, either one will do the trick! Awesome broadheads.
