If you had a ton of money, which would be your Dream Bow? A Schaefer, Brackenbury,Blacktail, or a Wes Wallace. Which model of the bow? What special wood combinations if any? Come on Folks now is your chance to Dream! :campfire: :coffee:
Too limited, what about habu or eagle wing???
Of your 4- Schafer
pamike, just out of these four please.
blacktail snakebit
blacktail, already have two but would take another, maybe nice to try a schaefer
Out of those four...Blacktail Snakebit.
Brack Peerless Tommy!
I already have one and if my house were burning it's the very first thing I would grab. (after the wife and boys of course. ... well at least the boys). :biglaugh:
About a 2 year wait though...
Ron
Hey Ron! :wavey: . :biglaugh: That's the bow you had that year we shot at The'Ham together?
Drifter by Jim. Wish I still have mine
56" One Pc recurve matching the takedown I just had done from Schafer. 45@28
Wes Wallace Mentor...bocote all the way.
The last three all have Jim Brackenbury's influence...also those will make a longer one piece recurve....my favorite.
It would be one I've already owned, the Snakebit in satin finish.
56" Blacktail snakebit
Schafer one piece, black and white ebony, 60" and 60# @ 28". Checkered grip.
60-62" Blacktail. I bought a 53# 60" inch VL . I still shoot it better than any other. I am currently working hard on my shooting with my Pronghorn because it is around 60# at my draw and I like it a lot but , if had to pick one for a money shot right now it would be the Blacktail.
I like it so much I just had it refinished by Blacktail, not cheap but worth every penny .
Caribow, Someday I will have one!
Wes Wallace,I have a Stealth that I have had for 25 plus years and enjoy shooting it just as much as when it was new, plenty of mojo in it also.
I bought my dream bows. 2 66" Schafer 1 piece longbows
I have a 66" Wes Wallace Mentor coming next month. Norm's bows are really beautiful, but his wait time was 18 months when I ordered the Mentor, so I went with Wes. :)
In the meantime I picked up a used 66" Brackenbury Drifter TD - so if you asked me NOW,
I'd order the Blacktail - 66" one piece Elite VL. :D
I'd like to compare all 3 of them. :archer:
I have 2 Blacktails but I don't have a Schafer,so that would be my pick!
64 inch Schafer longbow
DDave
Hard choice I'd feel pretty thankful to own any of them.... Fine bows by fine bowyers but would say if I had my choice of the four it would be a Schaefer silver tip with zebrawood and ???? I'm wondering what a zebrawood and verawood riser would look like :)
Well that is a great 4 to choose from. Lucky to say I have one of them already.
I am dreaming of a Blacktail Snakebit and Silvertip!
Can you beat an combo of cocobolo, ebony, marblewood, bubinga, rosewood, koa, leopard wood, curly anagri, mango or kerilian birch burl?
Silver tip with dymondwood rosewood riser with grey, black, maple accent strip with crazy, multi-colored, highly figured mango limbs and grey sheep horn tips, checkered grip,FF, 62".
About to turn that dream into a reality hopefully! :archer:

One way to find out ! :D
Long time lurker, think this is my first post..
Wes Wallace Royal, cocobolo riser, osage accent stripe, yew limbs. Righty, one piece, on my "one a these days.." list.
Wes Wallace Mentor
riser: Cocobolo or Bolivian Rosewood
limbs: Bamboo core and Yew veneers with antler tips
Have had all of them and the Silvertip w/ the original riser is my favorite.
All are great bows but if you go with a Brack, which I love by the way, be prepared for a long wait, it will be well over 2 years. For me it would be another Schafer.
Black Widow
This bow has a great story behind it. I almost went home with it one year. I wish i did. I would love to have this bow built again in a 3 pc TD longbow by Schafer and some day i might have it done!
http://smg.photobucket.com/user/comanche/media/Bows/Copy1ofIMG_3008.jpg.html
bocote 60" FF Schafer with checkering and engraved. woodland camo limbs around 50#
I'm currently shooting my third Brackenbury, my dream bow. It is a Quest made to look like the old Gray Shadow w/purple heart accents. It's a joy to shoot.
I missed a groundhog with it today, my fault, not the bow.
If I had a TON of money, I would have them ALL, Plus a few more Widows and a couple Robertson's. :bigsmyl:
65# Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet 66".........Might have Wes build me a 66" green one piece stealth....... not interested in the rest................
62" all coco or macassar 3 piece Mentor. Never owned a ST but have shot several. Owned BTs and Bracks but for me the Mentor was it. Got stupid though and no longer have the two I did own-so much for the quest for the perfect bow.
Schafer, fully loaded. B&W ebony mix or Bastogne walnut and Koa or myrtle mix. Sheep horn icing. Yum, LOL
Schafer one piece, bubinga riser, yew lams.
I think these are some of the prettiest bows I've ever seen and the quality of crafsmanship is phenominal:
http://www.blacktailbows.com/legacy-series.html
I wouldn't take it hunting, but it would be cool to have for just shooting around the house and at 3D matches.
Garrett,
I agree, but I'd be afraid to even touch one that gorgeous. I'm guessing it's one of those that falls in the category of "if you have to ask how much it is, you probably can't afford it", lol!
blacktail, Schafer, Wallace, brack. in that order
For me it would be the blacktail. Not just pretty but really fast.
It would only be Black Tail or a Scheffer and I am blessed enough that I can afford pretry much anything I like so thats no issue. I have now 4 snake bits and 2 other Black tails so I am not partcale.
What I would really would like is another Schaffer with every option imaginable and woods like so exotic it would be wow and nothing but wows.
Theres 4 or 5 guys on here that have schaffers to die for and most have seen their bows and they are really over the top. Usally when I get a build it has to be over the top thats just what I like and its got to be right with no flaws.LOL
Theres other bows equally as good if not better than your 4 mentioned.
Black tails and Schaffers retain values and are eassier to sell if you need to it also seems by watching the classifieds.
Bow # 9 I think was Dannys bow if I'm not mistaken? I like that as well myself to bad you didn't get it Gary thats beautiful I like scroll work its just differant.
Back to Black tails the new sika riser I really like also and been thinking about that model alot. I been watching for certain woods and each time I see them they are gone to have it on hand to get the next world wonder done.LOL
Schafer 62in , bacote limbs bamboo core , bacote riser with zercote accents in riser with deer tracks and stripling
tommy
I shot a 66" wes Wallace mentor at hamster--
and was totally impressed! outstanding shot feel!!

No doubt. I am big on buying the best that you can afford and then just taking care of your stuff. However, I've had a couple guns of equal quality/artistic value and just didn't use them enough to justify their cost. To me, the best value comes when you have fewer toys, nicer toys that are handmade and/or very nice production stuff, but toys that you don't mind actually using. Bows like that are more of a functional work of art, rather than functional art/beautiful hunting tool.
Yep, "Love Potion #9" is mine and will never leave my stable. Glad you did not purchase it Gary, LOL.
I like the looks of the 1 piece Black Tails.
I think if I had the money, the riser would be made of Gold ;) :readit:
Tom, All fine bows you have listed there but I am surprised to see you thinking about bows other than Hill Style longbows. Enjoy!
I would get a tricked out Schaefer, then sell it to Keith Zimmerman and go order an Eagle Wing.
Good Shooting,
Craig
Blacktail takedown 60" 55# it would have to have some snakewood and graybark in it.
Give me the Wallace please. 62" 3 piece takedown, Bolivian, Rosewood riser, Myrtle veneers and antler tips.
Sorry, none of the bows listed would be of interest too me.
Well I already owned a Schafer and it wasn't for me. My takedown mentor is due in a couple of months.
Have had them all and hands down the Silvertip for me.
Good idea Craig. I like your thinking! We can discuss what you can order for me at Standing Stone:)
Schafer no doubt- 58" 47# checkered grip, horn tips, black and white ebony woods.
Sounds good Keith.
Good Shooting,
Craig
Tough call. I think that Blacktail Snakebit is probably the most beautiful recurve out there for my taste, so that is what I am leaning toward. If I plan on hunting with it too, then a Silvertip.
Great List Tommy Boy:
I would look at the Blacktail with the new short riser...
Ebony/Bocote Riser, with Bocote Limb Veneers... :saywhat: :saywhat:
All great bows, but none on that short list are in my "dreams".
ChuckC
Out of just those four...Schafer T/D.
Original Brack....
I would spend the money on my upcoming hunt in the mountains!
Blacktail
:goldtooth:
Blacktail elite, 64"
