I was wondering if any of you guys have ever experienced a great northern making a rattling noise. Not necessarily while shooting, but if i bump the limbs with my hand(trying to see if it rattles) it always does. I believe I have narrowed it down to the hood. This is a bolt on quiver mounted on a Black Widow recurve.
Yes, first thing I try is to push on the hood foam to make sure it is seated all the way in and is nice and tight.

I will try that! is there a permanent fix for it?
I took a GN quiver apart once and put automotive double sided tape on the metal insert.
So Rob, you also had a problem with yours making noise? Is this common only with the bolt ons?
I took the metal insert out years ago, never had a problem with it after. If it was put there to protect from points pushing through, I never had issues.
Mine was a strap-on model. Easy fix though.
I've had a couple with the rattle you describe as posted you can fix it, it was very noisy.
I will check it out tomorrow. Thank you for all the help, fellas.
To make sure I'm understanding, there is a plate below the foam that is rattling?
There is a piece of galvanized tin under the foam that makes it next to impossible to push a broad head through the quiver.
i have used strap on and the quick detach model on my Habu...and never had any noise issues. Have you called Bob at GN to see what he might be able to offer up if this has happened before...he would know....as long as people talk to him and just dont do it in forums. LOL
L shaped metal safety plate that's glued to the top of the foam insert must be a little loose. Pull the insert out and re-secure it. I'd advise against removing it, it's there for your safety. I fell down a hill with one of mine and drove the broadheads through the plate. I'm sure if it wasn't in there they would have came through the top of the quiver.
Make sure the shafts youre shooting arent to narrow for the grippers...they will rattle there too.
Also may want to check the zip ties that hold the hood to the wire framework. Mine were a little loose and caused a little buzz when I shot it or thumped it with my hand like you mention.
i pushed the foam down in the hood snugly and it solved the problem. Now how do i go about keeping it snug?
Yellow Dog, you said that I need to "resecure it", how do i go about doing this?
Thank you for all the replies fellas.
TTT, Had to push the foam in after every few shots today. Anyone know how I can prevent it from rattling?
Still having problems.
Does anyone have any suggestions to stop this?
Best thing would be to call GN Quivers and let him give you his answer. If that failed, I might try some Shoe Goop and glue it up there. It will be a challenge to get it out, tho.
I will call them today. I just didn't know how it would work out with me not being the original owner, but I will try it out today.
I took the foam out that came with the quiver. I then cut a piece of high density foam using the original as a pattern. I replaced the original with my home made one and no more movement or noise, just make sure it's snug.

Ron,
Where could one get this high density foam?
I also need a little deeper foam than I currently have. I am shooting some simmons heads and they will not stay in the foam very well, and they also hang out a good ways.
I had a old Target that I used, one of those blue block type. Check with a store that sells electronic stuff, sometimes it's used for packing.
Daniel,
Check the computer stores or furniture stores. Check at your school also if a new computer came in. I have had to do this before also, not with a GN though. I used to keep a chunk because my sons seemed to lose theirs from one season to the next. If I had a piece I would send it to you.
Billy
Thanks Billy.
I called Great Northern today, left and message and didn't get a return call. Maybe he is waiting until tomorrow, idk.
He is not full time. He has a day job. He will return your call.
Billy
he just returned my call. He said I need a new foam as this ones medal shield has come undone.
A coating of Goop will hold that plate in place. You might be OK leaving it out, but it would only take one oops to shove a sharp head thru the quiver top.
