Title: Fixing a Hinge- When all Means Fail.........
Post by: robin on May 11, 2014, 08:30:00 PM
Would like to tap all bowyer ideas and experience when building a all-wood-bow with boo backing.

When you hit a "hinge" who do you do?

1)removing wood from the stiff area?
2) Knee bending on the hinge area?
3)heating that stiff area?
4)..........

Please share your experiences, much appreciated...

You will probably get more responses if you post this on "The Bowyers Bench" forum of this site.

last time I had one from a pin knot and I drilled out the knot , filled it with a dowell and then epoxied a piece of rawhide around it. Forty years later and she's still a shooter.

God bless, Steve

A hinge is the weakest point in a bow. You have to reduce both limbs to match the hinge. If your bow hinges at 30# your bow won't be stronger than 30#.
