This is the last weekend of turkey season in TN. I went this morning and didn't hear a bird in ear shot...I can hear forever from where I was at this morning. Since the turkey hunting was a bust I stopped by to check out my bow fishing honey holes in the hopes that the May suckers were starting to spawn. I saw quite a few but couldn't make it back til this afternoon...our little girl had a tball game and I had to do a few other things.
I went back to the creek as fast as I could get there by myself this afternoon. The suckers were in a deep hole and VERY few and FAR between. I managed to get one.
I came back home to eat a bite and take a break. Rachel wanted to go back with me. We found a hole that had some big carp. But they were way far off and too deep. That didn't keep me from trying though. I damn near shot til my shoulder was toast and I quit.
We hit one last hole on the creek on the way home just to check it out. There were quite a few suckers in it. I told Rachel to have at em. She grabbed the bow and did very well. I think she's hooked now. I've heard nothing but "bows" for the past three hours....I love it lol. I shoulda had her do this a long time ago.
That's my old Bear Hunter TD with 50# limbs she killed em with. I've got a set of 60# limbs I'm gonna put on it next time I get to go to aid in those long deep shots. She will be shooting my 45# Hoyt Dorado next time.

Get them hooked, then you get to spend some quality time together.
Congrats to you and Rachel!

Congrats to the both of you!
Awesome. Still looking to make this 'breakthrough' with mine ;)
Nice! :clapper:
My wife I great in many ways but I can't get her to pick up a bow for anything.
I hope to try for carp next weekend.

Congratulations to both of you. You are a lucky guy to have a wife who will take up the bow with you.
Thats awesome! Congrats!
Great job!
Cool stuff
Wow! Very nice!! :archer:
:archer:
Sweet!
Tell her Congrats!!!!!
She is a keeper, whom I would want to teach my fourteen children!
Well, mom or not (not, here. :banghead: ) she is a great shot and a wonderful friend. You are so blessed.
Killdeer :campfire:
Thanks for all the kind words folks. She is an accomplished outdoors girl. That's kinda how we met in a round about way. She isn't new at all to archery...she's shot compounds for many years. I bought her a Samick Sage last year but she hasn't shot it much. I think the bow fishing has really got her hooked on traditional.
I doubt that she takes a recurve to the woods after deer this fall...and unless she starts practicing for it right now, every day, I wouldn't want her too. But the seed has been planted now. She sees why I like it so much.
We went back after em today. I set up my Dorado for her and I kept the 50 # limbs on the old ugly Bear. I killed four but she didn't have any luck. She took it in stride though. I'm very proud of her.
:smileystooges: :biglaugh:
Too cool, Congrats Rachel!
Hey Charlie...I out did her today LOL.
Those two carp were my first two shots loosed today. Then I missed a few absolute gimme shots. We rode around doing some fish road hunting when I spotted a small school of suckers. I jumped the guardrail and killed that biggest sucker on my first shot. We finished off the day where Rachel got those two suckers yesterday. They were in a hole so deep it looked like shooting at goldfish. Many misses and two point sharpenings later, I finally connected with that smallest one.

All jokes aside...I'm extremely proud of her. We had a great weekend together.
That's what I like, a man that battles back from defeat! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Great job.
Awesome! Congrats to you both.

"Her first fishing trip and she out fishes you? I see who really brings home the bacon. "
That's why he switched out her bow!!
Killdeer :biglaugh:
Great story! My wife and kids all say bowfishing is thier absolute favorite time with a bow.
Glad you guys had fun!
Hey Killdeer....I had to do something to level out the playing field. Shhhh...LOL.
Just kidding. She is welcome to shoot any bow I have. 50# is a bit much for her though. I just wanted it to be a little more comfortable on her. Her compound is 50#. Her recurve is 35#. And for the shots we were having to make I didn't think anything less than 45 would get the job done.
I got two more after work this evening...one nice carp and another sucker. I was standing on a bridge, on top of the rail shooting straight down when I got the sucker. I was really proud of that shot....about twenty feet straight below me.
You can always get her another set of limbs for that Sage. And the Sage riser is perfect for putting a bow fishing reel on it. Keep up that "together" time spent bowfishing.
Congrats

"Do these fish make my bow look big?"
