Any special tatics for late day hunting them?
Have only hunted them in the spring,in
the mornings. Just curious what,if anything you guys do different.
Scout them and find where they are roosting and flying down everyday and setup nearby
1. Use Hen calls, soft, and sparingly.
2. If the gobbler/jake is quiet, call and wait.
3. If they are load and respond easily, then be more aggressive.
4. Try spot and stalk.
5. Don't get too close to their roost, or they will move, but
6. If you know where the birds are, and the roost, then set up to intercept them on their way to the roost.
7. Hunt in light rain.
8. If you don't know where their roost is, try an owl call, peacock, coyote to get them to gobble after dark; mark the location and leave.
9. Use a call like wingbone, or one that makes a different sound. Maybe the gobbler will think that sounds like a new lady and then come to check it out.
I'm so jealous of all you peeps who get to turkey hunt. We have nothing round here....
