Title: Is it safe??
Post by: silent sniper on May 08, 2014, 07:00:00 PM
Hey guys I just swiped a broadhead over my practically new 8 strand SBD string. It looks like I cut through 2 strands. It is on a 50# bow.  Is the string still safe to use ? Thanks SS.        (http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk218/action_2008/0EF454E7-0015-46EA-A1DE-47766DC873DF_zpsu5pxjrnl.jpg) (http://s281.photobucket.com/user/action_2008/media/0EF454E7-0015-46EA-A1DE-47766DC873DF_zpsu5pxjrnl.jpg.html)

Strings are cheap. Bows are not. Replace it.

Another, no way.  I wouldn't shoot that myself.

Not worth the risk to you or your bow, IF...

When hunting, I bring a spare string with me just in case.

I wouldn't shoot that string, or even pull it back.  I wouldn't even leave it strung on the bow, two strings are cut, but others could easily be nicked.  Get two new strings and shoot one in with a hundred arrows and carry it as a spare. Then set up the other string for use.  Peace of mind, don't ever risk getting hurt, or damaging your bow.

As stated above... Order two new strings and break 'em both in... Save the old string material to tie on your next buck tag...

I'm sure you were joking, right? Sort of like "I just cut 1/4 of the strings on my parachute. Should I still jump?"

I understand the point haha. I figured it was junk but I was hoping not as I had just completed a difficult 1 mile trek through a swamp and thick woods to get to the top of a big hill where a nice gobbler roosts every night. I had just reached the top of the hill when my string got caught in my catquiver and pushed against one of my KME sharp simmons. As we can all see it ruined that string in a heartbeat. My hunt turned into a "bird watch" lol.

On the bright side I have an excuse to finally start rolling my own strings. Looks like i will need to get some supplies.  Thanks everyone, SS

I always carry a spare while hunting. Not because I am smart but because I am experienced.

Wise words from Sagebrush...I never go anywhere without a spare.

Another vote for a spare. Spare string in the bag, spare bow in the truck. "The hunt ends when I say it ends!" Haha glad it didn't cut right through and a) hurt you and b) hurt your bow

It might make a good shoe string!

Use that string to make silencers for your new one.

And/or split the strands up to use for some super strong sewing material.

I'd get that bow unstrung as quickly as I could safely do so!
