So my new bow loves 2016 at 30" with 125 grain point, but they come in about 100 grains less then I want. I can't cut them any so was curious where you would go from here? 70-75 surewoods are looking pretty close, any suggestions?
A 2016 spines at 59 lbs. I suspect a 70+ lb 11/32 fir might be a little stiff. How heavy a finished arrow and what point weight do you want to shoot?
Bump up to a 2018 and add 25-50 to the point weight.
I agree bump up to a 2018 and 145 gr point will gives around a 50 gr. or so added overall weight.I shot a 2018 with a 175 gr. point out of a Hill I had,I think if I remember correctly it was a 590 gr. + arrow.
Like to be in the 575-600 neighborhood. I'm starting to think a 65-70 with about a 145gr point should do it.
What is your draw length? What is the bow's specs?
Bow is a 52@28 Javaman Elkheart I draw right at 29". String is 8 strands or d10. First bow I've ever had that didn't like a really stiff shaft. I'll get it through some paper tomorrow and get it tuned up. The thing seems to shoot everything well. Nothing from 70-85 really looks bad with 125-175 gr points, 2016 looks great with 125-175.
Is the shelf cut to center? If it isn't then the arrow needs less spine weight to allow it to bend as it enters paradox. So the 2016's make sense. I still think the 175gr points would make the arrow weak though. If the bow is cut to or past center I would try some heavier spines like 2018's or 65/70's in wood shafts. Keep in mind that for every 7 grs over 125gr you add to the point weight you need to up the shaft spine by 1#. So if you are using 175gr pts you are adding 50grs over resulting in having to add 7# to the spine.
