Me and my farther recently made a trip to Hungary to hunt wild boar. Coming from the UK we are not lucky enough to legally hunt with a bow , even though we have such a rich history from this beautiful weapon.
For me i feel like bows and bowhunting is in my blood and have been passionate about all things traditional archery ever since i can remember.
After arriving at Budapest airport we meet with our host and was told we would be hunting that evening.
we drove to our accommodation and quickly got our gear ready and made our way to the hunting area to meet the two professional hunters Zoltan and Chubba or chubby as he is known!
That evening i sat in a tree as my Dad and Zoltan walked n stalked. I was only hunting Yearling pigs so i resisted a shot and admired them instead. Whilst getting ready to climb down they spooked and disappeared over a wooded ridge out of sight. A dull thud caught my attention, followed by one of the boar running Back toward my tree only to expire yards away. He had made the mistake of heading toward my dad and Zoltan who were quietly making their way to pick me up.

This is my Dads first big game animal with a bow so its was a special time to be in the woods together. And what a start to our trip!!

The second morning of our hunt saw no action but a few animals spotted. Zoltal liked to wait until mid morning to stalk by that time most of the boar had bedded down for the day in their shallow scrapes or wallows. After 10 years working as a PH in this area he knows the forest like the back of his hand and all the likely spots to try depending on the wind.
We all went for lunch at mid day and soon after we was off out again on foot again. That afternoon I got busted on 2 stalks because of the wind constantly changing through the trees.

we carried on and eventually Zoltan spotted a grour feeding in the distance. He signaled me to make a stalk on them trying to cut across to get the wind right. after some hard stalking and zig zaging through the trees to keep up with the feeding Group i had a large sow with a Litter of piglets come feet away from me. She started snorting and she was not happy with me being there. I kept still until she moved off with her young. By this time one of the yearling pigs had come to see what was happening, not seeing any danger it turned to walk off. I quickly rose and took a pretty heavy quartering shot.
i was relieved to see my fletchings disappear where i looking.

Congratulations to you both.
Hope you get some more.
Beautiful photos.
Great hogs....
Whilst out hunting the following day we spotted this charlie making his way through the tree line in the distance. he found a sunny spot to lay against a tree. lucky for me his head was out of view.
The wind was blustery so i tried to time my foot steps to the whistle of the tree tops.
12 yards away and i was sure he would hear my heart pounding. I drew back and he jumped up in the air looking straight at me. but it was too late. He went down on the spot. Zoltan let out a huge cheer from further back in the woods. He had caught the whole thing on film.

I really enjoyed this! Thanks for posting.
Good story..THXS for sharing!
That is REALLY cool! Your Dad's boar is impressive to say the least! And I'd bet that your pig was fantastic table fare!
It is a shame that bowhunting isn't legal in the UK. But, the English also have a rich history of immigrating to the USA (where bowhunting is legal in all 50 states, BTW)....No offense intended. I'm just saying. :readit:  :D
Congrats, on a wonderful hunt and time well spent with family.

No offence taken! Ha.
I have considered immigrating a few times. It would be hard as here is where my roots are. But at least for me bowhuting is a way of traveling to beautiful places and meeting great folks.
