Well, some disappointing news today! Two Trad buddies had to cancel out on our planned Newfoundland moose hunt this fall due to personal and health issues. I will be hunting with Conne River Outfitters from Sept 27th-Oct 4th or 5th. This is a 1x1 hunt during prime rut dates. The outfitters gave me the ok to invite other trad hunters into the Dollards Pond Camp before he opens it to other archery hunters. I realize this is short notice but if you have an interest let me know. You can Google Conne River Outfitters for info and I will be happy to provide additional info if you e-mail or call me. 520-780-4220 Thanks, Michael
Let me repeat, these are prime dates in an archery only camp!
Sounds like a great hunt. Too close to my elk hunt, though. Dont forget your Final Step!!
Ha, ha! It's already packed Keith! It's a great mouth wash too!!! :biglaugh:
Flatshooter,
Please give me a call on thin in the morning.
Mike

Will do!
what can you expect to pay for a hunt like this?
Michael,
This would probably be a long shot for me but I would like more info on the hunt if you would care to share.
It looks like a great place to hunt and moose are on my short list for sure.
I need ( want ) to kill an elk first and will be going again in sept.
Thanks, Bill
Hey Bill, First off you can Google Conne River Outfitters for general info. Cost of hunt is $5250.for 6 full days with your own guide. Dave McDonald is owner/pilot who will fly hunters into Dollard's Pond, an archery only remote camp. Hunters will stay in Gander NF one night before and one night after hunt. References were very good. Hunt dates are during the prime rut. Dave Mc Donald can be reached at 709-882-2470. Only 4 Hunters assigned to this camp. Feel free to call me 520-780-4220. Best of luck with the elk.
Hey guys, while I certainly don't mind sharing a camp with wheelie hunters, it sure would be nice spending 6 days in this remote camp with some trad guys.
Hunted moose in Newfoundland last Oct.You guys are in for a real treat
Dave McDonald or Dean McDonald?
I had done a bunch of research on NF moose hunts last year and Conne River was one of the best I had found.
Go for it Bill! Life is short. Come home from elk hunting just in time to leave for NF. Sounds like a perfect plan!
Looked them up. The guy in most of the success pictures and first one on reference list lives just about 10 miles from me. Think I will have to contact him. Looks like a great hunt, wish I could swing it.
Got burned on a guided whitetail hunt in Illinois several years ago. From then on I realized how important it was to do the research and contact references. I did that and feel pretty good about my selection of Conne River Outfitters. Dave McDonald impressed me each time I have spoken to him. I'm hoping some of you guys will be able to swing this. Only four to the camp so I would suggest you contact Dave directly and let him know you want in with me at Dollard's Pond as soon as you can.
Any interest out there? This is a great opportunity to score on an eastern moose!
Oh, I'm interested. But my bank account won't let me. Not saying that it isn't a good price, just don't have the funds. If I did, you would have a Kansas boy with you this fall! Good luck, hope you find a TG'er to go.
Sorry too Glenn! I know it's a big number, I've been saving for this for awhile. Just thought I'd throw it out there for some guys who might be able to commit on short notice. Stay well buddy!
Keep us posted as to how the hunt goes!
Will do!

I'd be all over this if I wasn't booked October 5th for a week in the Florida keys. Still thinking about changing dates.
Hope you can join us Terry. If you can swing the dates, I would suggest you contact Dave at Conne River Outfitters and ley him know you want to be in the Dollard' Pond Camp. Stay well, Michael
This is a great opportunity. Where are all those guys that were dreaming about moose hunting about a month ago?
Still looking... I would really like to see this camp maxed out with 4 trad hunters.
Did this hunt last year with diff outfitter. Awesome place to hunt moose. They are everywhere!!! Always tough to swing the money but u will never regret it if you do.

You should change the dates - there is very little meat on those Key deer anyways. :D
Sent you a PM, Flatshooter.

I should mention to anyone who is considering this hunt, archery is 55#s minimum. I neglected that info and assumed throughout all of my research that 50# was the minimum. Thanks Bisch for bring up the question...my bad!
anyone know how they measure the weight ?
Good question! I've never hear of anyone getting weight checked.
CORRECTION: While some NL outfitters may require hunters to draw 55# for moose, the NL Fish and Game Regs only require 20kg or 45# as a minimum. Sorry for the misinformation in my earlier post.
VERY INTERESTED!!!!!
Sent you another PM.
Bisch
Go for it Bisch!!!!
Returned p.m Bisch. Hope you can make this work. Michael
Good talking with you today Sam. Hope you can make it in Sept.
Well, after crunching some numbers and checking schedules, I regret to say I am out! It is just too much too fast.
I hope you fill those slots with trad guys Michael! And I hope you whack a nice bull in Sept!
Bisch
Sorry to hear that Bisch, but I realize it was short notice. Perhaps we'll hook up sometime in the future. I'll post an account of the trip in Oct. Stay well, Michael
Flatshooter, been following your post with keen interest. I too did some research on NFL outfitters. Conne is one of the best. Dang. Can't swing it this year. Planning on booking it next so that I have time to save the $. Really appreciate your opening this up for Tradgangers. Would really like to hear about your trip when you get back. Scott
Come on guys, there has to be someone on this forum that has deep enough pockets to make this happen.
I for one am not :( but hate to see those that have been dreaming and talking about a moose hunt miss out.
On some of those thread, the price range being thrown around was like $8000 average, this would be in that range maybe a little less time you throw in travel, tips, meat etc...
I know the economy is surely bad, but think of this the prices will never be cheaper, and old Father time has a way of making opportunities to never return again.
Think about that for a moment
Some 3 guys need to make a move on this train that may never pass this way again....
It's gonna be lonely in camp...Cost of this hunt is $5250. Includes 6 full days of hunting, moose tag, meals and your own guide during the prime days of the rut. Fly in the day before and fly out after the 6th day. Dollard's Pond is an archery only camp.
I would be all over this except that we have already booked a hunt for 2015 in NF. This is a good deal for someone
Best of luck to you!
ttt
If I wasn't already booked with another outfit I'd be all over this.
Just remember guys, life is short, don't wait too long to do the things you want to do.
Good luck on you hunt Pete! Nice to see a Ye Old F.A.R.T.S member responding to posts. It seems to be working!!! Michael
There is still time and room to book a hunt at the Dollard's Pond Camp. This is going to be an awesome experience in the NL backwoods. Love to have a few trad guys join me.
MAN! This is killing me...I am booked in BC for moose and black bears the same time or you'd have to fight me off. TTT for a great sounding hunt...BTW my hunt is nearly twice this one. That alone hurts me :knothead:
Best of luck on your hunt Mike! Wish you could have joined me on this one. As you probably know NL has the largest concentration of eastern moose anywhere. They don't carry as big hardware as the boys you'll be chasing but I hear they are pretty thick up there. Stay well and looking forward to hearing your story when you get back.
Still 3 spots open. If you're interested in this hunt you need to contact Dave McDonald of Conne Rivers Outfitters to hold a spot at Dollard's Pond.
Flatshooter, Ill give you a call to discuss some of the details. Rod
Sounds good Rod! Cell 520-780-4220 looking forward to hearing from you.
Well, Looks like another spot is filled.. Sam Roberts is going! Now we need two more trad hunters to fill the camp.
Let's fill the 2 Spots Before They're Taken! This Hunt Is Gonna Be A Blast... Prime Moose Rut Dates and Your Own Guide.
Our Camp May Be Full! Waiting On An Answer Tomorrow Morning!!!!
That's great, some people are going to have a hunt of a lifetime!
Thanks John! I appreciated the bumps along the way as I was trying to offer up these spots. Hope to post an account of the hunt in October.
Hope you got it filled up! It really hurt to admit to myself that I could not make it work. Can't wait to see all the pics and read about the adventure.
Bisch
Thanks Bisch, will do!
Back up to fill one spot
back up!
Who filled the last 2? Any people from here?
Matty, after watching the post faithfully, I couldn't stand it any longer and filled the third spot....there is one still open and we are hoping it is filled by a trad hunter...it is truly a once in a lifetime hunt at an incredible price (with great company I have to add!)
Turns out bear tags are inexpensive and available , which is just a cherry on top.
Remote 4 hunter camp with serious trad hunters, doesn't get much better!
1 spot left
Tim, got your p.m. Go for it! Hopefully we will be able to fill the last spot soon. If you get an interested hunter,I would suggest you have him contact Dave ASAP.
Committed hunters: :clapper:
Sam Roberts (Ga.)
Tim King (Tx.)
Mike Ruggiero (Flatshooter)(Tn.)
Sill one spot open
We're still looking for one more trad hunter to fill our camp.
Just checked the Conne River Website. Looks like we would get a 25% discount off lowest valued hunt if we book 4 guys.
If my wife wasn't due with our third this fall I would be jumping at this one!

Talk about sweetening the pot!!
:scared:
Yeah Matty! Jump on in the water's fine!
Congrats on the soon to be new addition to your family Brad! Maybe another time, another hunt!
Like to push this up to the top one last time! Sure would be great to fill the camp with 4 trad hunters and get a $300. discount to boot!
Want to keep this post alive since we still do not have a fourth. If anyone's situation has changed and this is now a possibility for you, we'd love to have you join us. Waiting to hear back from one Tradganger the first week in June regarding the open spot. A fourth hunter in our camp would mean about a $300. discount for each hunter.
Flights booked, arrows tuned and shooting every day! Anyone care to join three trad hunters on the hunt of a lifetime?
PM sent
PM returned. Hope that answered some of your questions Mike.
Mike, your killing me! Wish I could change my plans and go with you.
Would someone please take this last opening so I don't have to keep checking this this thread.

Bump.....How did your hunt turn out? If I missed another thread, sorry.
Thanks, Scott.
Hey Scott, thanks for asking... So not to bore you, I just posted a response in other thread...
Thanks
