I am staring down my first traditional season and nervous as all get out...11 days left to the Michigan opener and I'm extremely excited. This will be my 23 season bowhunting but my first with traditional gear. I've never been this anxious for an opener, well maybe back when I was 12 or 13, but seriously I'm jittery.
I've shot enough broadheads to know they can be finicky to say the least, kind of like a rifle bullet is to a particular barrel. Granted a perfectly tuned bow should shoot just about any broadhead effectively and accurately. If the bow was shooting perfectly tuned and the idiot behind the string does his part the shaft should go where it's aimed. But since this is my first year and I'm probably trying too hard to make a good shot while practicing I'm pulling some shots with broadheads attached. So here is the deal, I'm not sure if it's me or the arrow/broadhead or both. I have been shooting 3-5 days a week since February with around 1400 shots total. I'm consistent with field points out to around 17 yards but can put them in there out to 20 yards...I feel my affective range is around 15 yards and will do everything in my power to say within that range, I've hunted too long to wound a deer so I have discipline.
I have some Magnus Stingers that just seem to fly great, 4 blade type and I'm happy with them...this is where I should stop and use what works, but where is the fun in that. Now I picked up some NAP Hellrazor's the other day and I took one out to shoot it and I can't get it to hit the "spot" consistently. Is this something that I'm doing or is it the broadhead? The Stingers are longer than the Hellrazor's which changes my FOC but with traditional speeds I'm not sure how much this comes into play. But they are both longer than my field points so that shouldn't matter.
Gear is as follows:
Martin Savannah #50@ 28" drawn to around 29.5.
Beman MFX Classic's at 30.5" with 5" feathers over 8" wraps.
I shoot with a Damascus glove if that also matters.
Now my question is am I trying too hard to make the NAP shoot to the "spot" or is there going to be a difference in the way these heads are going to shoot? Should I just stick with the Stingers? I know they're a great head but I like trying different things.

You just discovered one of the rnigmas of traditional archery. Why a broadhead the same weight but a different style flys different than another. I'd say, on the side of caution, you need to just use what works well for you this seson and experiment when you have more time, during the next off season.
If they are the same weight and you are well tuned, they'll fly the same. Broadheads won't change FOC enough to notice. Be aware some broadheads don't weigh what they are marked by 10-15 grains and that will show especially if you are tuned on the edge one way or the other. Use a scale to check. Some ready made screw in's aren't as straight as they should be either....O.L.
did you spin test them abd are they spinning true?? sounds like that is the problem to me
