Title: Buying used bows
Post by: Cavscout9753 on April 26, 2014, 10:10:00 AM
This may not be the proper place to post, if so mod's please delete. I'm looking at various sites for used bows but I feel like there has to be a better place. There's one forum site with a classified section, but they all seem high-end bows a couple/few hundred outside my dollar range. Then there's a certain auction site that I simply don't trust. Seems half of those people don't even know what make a bow is let alone if its structurally sound or not. I shoot a Samick Red Stag now, and after a couple years of it now I feel committed enough to upgrade a little bit, but at $500+ my wife will absolutely kill me. So is there some place I should be looking and I'm not? A lot of the small bowyer companies have used bows but a listed as "sold". I understand, they are smaller operations and dont have time and manpower to update their stuff every minute. If you think its improper to discuss this on here but know of some places please feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance! Have a great weekend!

You're in the right place.  The classifieds here are great and you can find just about anything you want. If its not already for sale just post a wanted ad and you will find something.

You have to become a "contributor" to use them and there is a small fee.  This fee goes to keeping the site going and keeping people from abusing it.

Give it a shot.

Thanks. I just paid the fee, now I'll just wait for it to take affect.

Do a search on RMSG to see their inventory of hundreds of bows, then call them as you won't find better advice and service...good luck.

Yep...don't tell the wife and hope she can't tell one bow from the other!!  PO box might be a good idea.  Man cave with a secret closet for a rack.       :smileystooges:

Good luck and don't forget to post a wanted ad if you don't see something you want...be specific about what your looking for and exactly what you want to pay. That will make for a smooth transaction and happy on both ends.  A lot of great guys here with a lot of bows!!!  Just ask.

A LOT of great bows sell in the $300 range.

I have bought bows off of all the forums, and hands down for the most variety of bows and smoothest transactions, TG wins hands down.  If you are into ILF and field archery there is another forum that is perhaps more suited, and there is another that splits the difference but the user interface kinda sucks haha.  Need to buy a bow? TG all the way.

For sure, RMSG is a great place to find what you are looking for, as are TG's classifieds. I have had great luck on our classifieds as well as RMSG.

I purchased my first "Upgrade Bow" from this site.  (It was a Chekmate Hunter II / TD)  I wish I could remember the sellers name... I would like to thank him!  The bow was reasonably priced,.. I had it within a few days... and it was in excellent shape.  I have taken 4 elk and a BUNCH of deer with it.  I have since upgraded again.... but if I ever feel the need to get another used bow.... Trad Gang will be where I do my shopping!!!!

Rob & Terry keep a close eye on things.... which makes this place "pretty" safe to do business.  Of all the other internet possibilities for purchasing a used bow.... Trad Gang has my vote!!!  I think Trad Gang is the safest..... and has the most choices of used bows out there!!!!

Don't get anxious.... Take yer time.... and wait for the right bow to open up!

Respectfully,

Donnie

Big Jim has lots of used bows. I traded with him three years ago and got my Kanati, which I still have.

He's a sponsor here. Just look at the top of this page on the right, directly beneath the picture of Izzy.......

You have to keep checking daily, hourly maybe even every 15 minutes  ;) . You can find some great deals here. You also get to deal with some great people.

I have bought several bows from this site (yes I'm addicted), all of them have been Shrew or Java Man bows.  I got a Shrew Super Deluxe long bow and just recently I purchased a Tanjavar Recurve.  Both bows were in new condition and I didn't have to wait 8 months to a year to play with my new toy........... Oh yea, one other thing, I saved hundreds of $.

WOW Skitch, I thought I was the only one that did that!

I agree, the classifieds here, RMSG are great, and I have bought several inexpensive bows from the Footed Shaft.
They are typically older bows but they have deals

The classifieds here are by far the best and safest to make your deal and for 500.00 you should do well.

Hands-on is always a good policy, are there any stick-bow shoots close by that have vendors/blanket swap?

Trad Gang is an excellent shopping site as stated above. Also, as you go to various trad events, you will find lots of individuals who have bows for sale. They will let you try them out, and you can get immediate answers to your questions. In some ways shopping, in and of itself, becomes an adventure. Good luck!

We have lots of used bows ( typically over 100), but don't normally list them on our site until fall.

We do 14 shoots a year and the inventory changes daily so it is nearly impossible to keep the inventory up on our site.
I have bought, sold and traded for as many as 80 bows at one event.
Thanks, bigJim
