Title: My Turkey season so far...
Post by: frassettor on April 25, 2014, 01:46:00 PM
This morning was a crisp 42 degrees when I headed out. My season opened up on Wednesday, but due to work obligations, I could not go until today. I always wanted to try and get one in my Ghillie suit!
My plan this morning was to hunt my uncles place which has Turkeys on it quiet often, if not successful there then head out to our deer woods in the marsh and try it there.

My uncles..

My success rate on Turkeys is not good, but I sure do like trying. After a long sit at my uncles without any success or even a glimpse or a peep from a gobbler, I decided to head out and try it at our deer hunting woods. But not before doing a little stump shooting on the way out! Unfortunately one of the stumps was not quite rotten enough and my arrow paid the price!   :(

I then headed to the deer woods to try it in the ol cedar swamp, but it was so flooded that there was no way I could hunt there. I decided to head back home and take a "detour" past the public land that's very close to my house. After arriving there and seeing there was no one there, I decided to give it a whirl. This time I got on a field edge with the decoy hoping that it would provide a good  visual to a Tom looking for a romance.

I will be the first to admit that I believe my calling sounds more like a sick chicken with a bad cold then a love sick hen   :readit:

With no luck on the public land I packed it in to get home to take care of some chores. I will be back at it tomorrow. Thank you for coming along, to be continued....

I have been in a blind all season and I am getting frustrated with being so stationary, so tomorrow I will get the 'bush in a bag' and do what you have been doing. At least we get some exercise and stump shooting in that way, and we aren't confined to one spot.
Good luck and have fun!

I dont blame you for toting that beater bow out into the thick brush instead of a half way decent one. At least you have the decency to cover it up with those limb stockings.
