190 of them on my first search of the year, and I will look for more after chasing turkeys in the morning.
Funny, I was just thinking this morning, you guys down there must start finding them soon. It will be at least 3 weeks before I expect to start seeing them here.
Nice Cache!
Picked 55 in the rain yesterday . It's been so dry around here in NE Kansas this year.
Got a 1" of rain yesterday they should be blowing holes in the ground this weekend. LOL
Crappie are moving up on the banks too. Not a better meal in the spring than Crappie fillets and Morels.
Bretto
Awwww man! Now I'm jonseing for some morels. Haven't had any in dog's years!! Sliced and sauteed in butter. Or wrapped in ground beef like a Scotch Egg and deep fried! Yummmmm!
Just watch out for the False Morels. They are poisonous!!
It has been so cool here, I haven't heard of anyone finding any yet in our area.
Holy smokes - you hit the morel mother lode!
Finally got some rain around my place yesterday so hope to find some this weekend.
Nice haul bretto.
That's a nice mess. It's been slow here. Very dry. We got about a half inch of rain last night though. Hopefully that will make them pop in the next day or two.
OH My! Those are sure to be tasty. Enjoy!
Bryant - good to see someone getting a great haul this early - even if it is in MO.
Dry as a bone here right now, but it should not be long!
yum!
My family has picked morels for years , but I never got to interested in them. Something about the smell of them frying I guess, maybe I got sick after eating them when I was young.
Anyway, I had not heard there was a false morel. How do you identify them?
Slow turkey hunting this morning but my son and I found about 70 nice black sponge. Time to get the skillet warmed up.
My turkey hunt was 'slightly' interrupted by the landowners son hunting mushrooms this morning. Not for me...
I like the million dollar cup of coffee though
false morels look nothing like the common white morel, so if you know what a white morel looks like your good to go.
this is a false morel,( big red morel)

they are good to eat too.i just took this pictue this morning.
what kindve terrain do they grow? open woodland or thickwoodland like under briars? I know look around old rotten oak logs. but didnt see any.
I find most of mine around creeks or drainages in bottomlands.where the ground stays moist.
I need to start hanging out with you arrow30
I found around 260 this year. It was the best year ever. Have found them as early as March 15 and as late as April 20. It's usually about a two week period here when you can find them. Very tasty.
Lippe
I kept my Eyes peeled today but no luck is Jersey. I think by mid week though they will be up all over down there. Still a couple weeks out here.
This one was hard to miss!

Not sure if they have them in Texas, even if they did the hogs would get them all pretty quick.
Here it is usually the first week of May but as late as things are this year it will probably be at least a week late. Last year we found some big ones like BMN's later in the season right near my home.
I found these Saturday & with a little help ate them all Saturday night :)

I found 137 yesterday. Photobucket is not co-operating or I post some pictures.
Nice haul Ben!
My wife and I found about 7 gallons last weekend. Been eating them every day since! :-)

that looks nice rob,
I see 5 there rob. We need better temps here. Have the moisture content though. Hopefully another week or so.
I have had a pretty good year so far. The turkeys aren't cooperating but oh well. Stump shooting and mushroom hunting are fun too!

Way too cold here! Heck, my lawn isn't even growing! :dunno:
Finally got Photobucket to work! (http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/bens5218/010-6.jpg) (http://s223.photobucket.com/user/bens5218/media/010-6.jpg.html)
I found right around 125 this season. That's about par for the course for me around here. They seem to be done here now. I haven't saw any in two weeks.
For you guys still finding them, or yet to find them...try sautéing them with a little garlic and some onions, then make that mixture into an omelet. First time I ever tried that was this year. My gosh it's GOOD!
Nice finds!, my morel hunting area is still under about three feet of snow.......which is a good thing!!
After tomorrow with the temps and the moisture the way it is, I know they will start to pop up here. I guess the first gray was found 2 hours west of here.
Picked another mess tonight. I've put about 3 1/2 gallons in the fridge so far. Easy to pick 50-100 each trip without having to spend long looking.
Found one 7 1/2" tall yesterday. Biggest one I've found in a couple of years.
bretto
I think they are about done here also. We have not found any since last week. BeauJ
Found another 3 gallons yesterday. They are slowing down now here.
Had a great morning with my youngest.

Just starting to find a few in eastern Pa.
Found 109 this morning here in central PA and heading out this afternoon to hit a few more spots.
I kept an eye out in some promising areas today at a 3d shoot. I think its still a little on the cold side here.
I think another week or so and they will be here.
Found a dozen today while at work. Still say they don't hold a candle to my beloved black trumpets in flavor.
Great News Izzy, My wife and i are headed out in an hour to try our luck.
Have yet to find one here but continue the search.
My son found some next to our drive way this afternoon. I found a couple in the neighbors yard a couple of days ago.
I walked about 2 miles today. None found yet.
FINALLY. Found a few. Mostly small Grays but all Delicious.

Finally finding some here in SE MN. Had some tonight before dinner. Mmmmm!
