I have shot a traditional bow since I was about 6....well over 40 years. In that time, I have shot pretty well, but always struggled (I felt) with my release. I have tried every glove known to man. I tried Black Widow tabs, the SAM tab, even a golf glove.
Today I grabbed just a simple thin leather tab and shot a few arrows. Perfect. I shot some more. Best release I remember in a long time. I shot about 100 arrows, and completely love the simplicity, and perfect release.
Go figure....over 40 years with a bow in my hand and all I needed was a thin simple tab. :knothead:
Cordovan? I have shot with a Bateman tab for many years. I think I would cry if I would lose it
I have shot with a Bateman cordovan tab for several years. They are great tabs.
Sometimes simple is the best way to go......
Eichler tab here for the same reason.
I use a Neet cordovan tab. Thin layer of leather on the back. No spacer. Can't get much more simple. Less than $10. Works fantastic.
I use a Screaming Eagle tab. It is one single layer of Cordovan leather. I love it! I get mine from Grandpa, a member here.
X2 on the Screaming Eagle cordovan tab. They are slick and work great.
I completely wore out a Screaming Eagle cordovan tab. Quite a testimony to my practice habit as you can't wear one out... I surely would like to get another one.
I make my own two under tabs out of 4oz nubuck leather. Best thing since bare fingers!

simple is best for me, too. i'd never buy 'em, have always made 'em since the 50's.

Exactly......
I switched to a tab for the same reason. I like an Angel tab best.

A friend of mine in the TBG made this. He cuts them out of cordovan and ads the Velcro. Best I've used.
Thanks :)
Anybody have a pic of the screaming eagle tab?

Do a tab shape similar to this one but with more material at the string and without the cut for split fingers. Then trim it to the width of your fingers and squared to your longest finger at draw. From there start curving the edge by the string until it just barely covers your fingers without any excess. When it's the desired shape, trace it and save the template. Then you'll have a "custom" template to fit your hand exactly. Tabs are really easy to make.
Rob,yours looks perfect,thanks.
After reading this I set out to make my own tab. I have shot Neet tabs for years and needed a new one anyway. It took a few tries to get what I wanted, but I ended up with a good pattern and tab. It even shoots good for me. I'll never buy another one!!!

I stumbled on this concept by accident. Mt tab broke at the snap that holds the 3 layers together. So I just used the leather part. What a revelation. Thats all I'll ever use. And yes you can just make em yourself.
What kind of leather do you guys use and is it easy to find?
i use most any relatively thin leather, typically latigo, that has one side "chromed" smooth. the tongue of an old leather shoe can make a nice tab.
I use 4-6oz. nubuck. I bought a big piece, a few square feet, at Tandy when it was on sale for about $25. The nappy side makes a great grip surface and the slick side only gets slicker and more polished with use.
I shoot both a tab and damacus glove the same. I am currently using the glove because I cant keep track of the tab and loose them all the time. I make my own tabs when I want one like Rob. Cheap just like me.
