gday folks, can you please hit me with a list of bowyers that make a high performance takedown recurve. Excellent customer service is also part of the selection criteria for me. Just wondering whats out there. Thanks
Dan Toelke
What exactly do you consider "high performance"?
Predator,Black Widow,Bob Lee,Stalker plus many other talented bowlers who are sponsors here can help you out.
Bill Dunn, Zipper Bows.
Dryad, Fedora, Schafer, Eaglewing, Bigfoot and about 50 more. Anyone who is a sponsor will likely qualify at least from a customer service perspective and I don't know anyone who builds a 'low performance' bow. :archer2:
Big Foot , Whippen Stick, lots of performance and customer service.
Lost Creek
Talk with Chad.
Not enough room to post here.
I agree with Bjorn completely. From looking at Clint's signature line I believe his high performance request likely equates to technological advances in materials. Likely carbon/foam or carbon/whatever combos. Not all makers use those materials, but there are plenty that do.
Save a pound or two Clint and just kill some grass.
:readit:
Boo Baby! Plenty fast and a more natural sound and feel IMHO.
Best of luck Sir!
I'll throw another one out.....Steve at Eaglewing Archery!
Wes Wallace gets my vote!
Stalker Stickbows
Journeyman Archery makes a recurve that is second to none in my opinion. The Journeyman bows shoot as well as they look. Good luck in your search my friend.
www.journeymanarchery.com (http://www.journeymanarchery.com)
Bigfoot SS, Stalker, RER, Morrison, Zipper, AandH
EagleWing, Belly and top mount models of Talon11, Storm Eagle and Steppe Eagle, Caribow SS , Many have high performance statics and also carbon models. However in the really good limb designs there is not much difference in the glass and carbon performance.
I am sure I missed a bunch of real good ones and do apologize to those bowyers. I did try to name ones I believe make carbon and static curves.
God bless and better luck, Steve
Lots of great bowyers out there. Despite being a hybrid guy, if I were to be looking for a recurve, I'd call Bob Morrison......we'll see what happens when Abe's Tuktu shows up on my doorstep.

Really, Clint, there are three totally different bows you should consider (in addition to the hundreds of others people will mention). Bob Morrison makes a very high performance carbon/foam core recurve which has been at the top of its class for years, as he continues to innovate. Dick Robertson makes the Wolfer; a completely new innovative design like nothing you have ever seen before. Dave Windauer makes the Stradivarius of bows, the Schafer Silvertip; not on the cutting edge of anything, but not matched by anything either.
Black Widow
Bob Morrison
Zipper
These three meet your criteria nicely & I can personally recommend them from my experiences with them.
Bob Morrison with the Max1 carbon foam limbs. Great performer.
Ben at Hummingbird is top notch! Cari-Bow is great or a Blacktail or Silvertip as other have said. So many....
Border for balls-out performance
Morrison for performance & stability.
Honestly, everything else comes second to those two.
Border builds the fastest bows going, but they evolve & change quickly. Bob Morrison has been building high performance bows for years & sticks with a formula he knows works for a long time.
I shoot Morrisons ;) I've yet to find a reason to shoot anything else, although I own others.
I know that you're a fan of Bob Lee's bows & as awesome as they are, most others will show a significant speed increase.
A lot of the bows previously mentioned are great, but until you've shoot a really fast bow, they've all much of a muchness.
I've got so used to Morrison bows, at my drawlength, that anything at all under 200fps seems sluggish & only Borders have matched up.
i've had build issues with bob lee in the past also though and quite frankly i'd be over the moon just to get a top performing bow that 1- is built to written instructions and 2- doesn't need a warranty claim within months. I currently own one border so i know what you mean robtattoo when you say that others fall by the wayside in terms of speed. Though the fastest and probably the most expensive limbs on the market aren't the easiest things to obtain made to order.
All the best in your quest.
High performance is more than speed alone. It also means quietness. shootability, quality of build, actually a whole lot of things. Some bows excel in speed but lack in that they will shock the tar out of you, Others have one or two attributes but lack in others. Some have all the good attributes but fall into mediocrity speed wise. Few have it all.
My goal as a builder and I am sure that more than a few of the other builders have this goal is to build bows that actually exhibit all the qualitys and those are what I call great bows.
God bless, Steve
Not a sponsor here, but Pittsley's Predator is a high performance bow with a high performance reputation and it's a well built bow. I've owned two of them. The only reason I don't have one now is that I've become more fond of lighter mass weight, one-piece, hybrid longbows. They're very close to recurves in terms of performance too.
Clint, bite the bullet, and get the CH. ;)
CH? you mean covert hunter? if so, i can't get limbs for my black douglas without hassles. so i'm not going to spend even more on something else from them.
I had great luck with Palmer bows. They usually rank very high in performance tests.
If you can wait 2 years and I believe it's a testament for his bow. Chris Cox of Habu bows. Workmanship flawless and the best combination of performance and stability. I've owned many of the above listed bows and will shoot them for months at a time. I'll pull out my Vyperkahn and shoot it and it always impresses.
Since you ask for a take down, a 2 piece Javaman Assyrian would be my vote

I can't tell you how many times I've heard that exact same thing. When you're pushing the envelope in terms of performance and technology, you better make sure you're dealing with someone who puts customer service on a level at least as high as performance.
Is 5 or 8 feet per second REALLY worth what you are going through?
I must say, I'm becoming pretty smitten with my 2014 Bear take-down A handle (two tone color scheme), with a set of #1 limbs. It makes a 56" bow that screams an arrow. The new limbs are fast flight string compatible. Limbs and bow length are many based on A or B riser and old Bear limbs work too. It's an extremely well behaved bow to boot.

For Performance, Bob Morrison hands down. And you can add shootability, quietness, looks and good customer service
As well. I have compared these bows with just about everything made here in the states and haven't found anything
To match them yet.
His bows allow me to shoot a much lighter poundage and get the same performance as a bow 6 to 8# heavier. Which is great for those of us, down to a quarter of a tank.
RW
Blacktail, Wes Wallace, Brackenbury, Stalker, Black Widow, Schafer just to name a few of the many talented bowyers.
Schafer Silvertip
Get a Bigfoot SS and get over the Border. It has nothing on the SS except a lot of extra weight on the tips that is not getting used. I bet there is not 2 fps difference in the bows and you will get what you ordered from Kirk. That or a Morrison and you are good to go. I think Bob would have no problem giving you exactly what you order and will not pawn off a surplus set of limbs on ya.
The stats on his bow are right there too.
Sooooooooooooo are you serious or did you need to vent some? Can't blame you if that's it because no way should you pay that kind of money for a set of limbs and get that shoddy treatment/. Funny thing is I would bet that most everyone here knew what bow you were talking about before you identified it.
God bless, Steve

With your kind of taste Clint I would second the Morrison or Bigfoot recurve technologies.
Best,
CB
I've bought 2 bows from them and have my 3rd on order. I have had nothing but good to say about there customer service. That sucks about whatever is going on. But having owned almost every bow there's are the fastest
they are making it good. there was a simple mistake at the finishing stage.
I like the Whippenstick Pheonix 3 PC or Inferno 2 PC.Morrison MAX 1 or 2 limbs and Border HEX 5,HEX 6 or HEX 7.Black Douglas or thier ILF bow.
I think Morrisons new MAX 1 curve limbs are superb as I shot a friends of mine recently with foam and carbon. That was an ILF bow.He makes the MAX 1s for the Cheyenne deflexed riser and more straight Shawnee riser as well. The ILF can be something to consider for the poundage adjustments and multipe choices of limbs available for from all sorts of makers.Border also makes a great ILF limb in HEX 5,6 or the newest HEX 7s.
I dont care what some folks say about Border.Thier flat out fast and super smooth drawing and smooth shooting. No one bow is the bow for everybody. You will have loyalists including me to certain models.
I have had many other bows that are superb performers other than the ones I listed.I happen to think those 3 stand out off the top of my head.
Lots of bowyers to choose from that will meet your criteria of high performance.
I am sure any bow listed here on this thread is excellant. You will want to find one that fits you well though personally. With the perfect grip for you and for whatever reason you just shoot it naturally.
Thier are bows with slightly less performance as far as feet per second that may suit you better than a screamer possibly.
Its nice to have a model with the versatility of different limb lengths incase you want to have a shorter brush/blind type bow and also a longer lighter poundage possibly for easy shooting, form practice and 3-D or just better accuracy for punching targets. That longer bow can obviously be used for hunting as well.
I admit though that it is nice to have all the punch you can get with a bow that shoots well and easily for you though and fits you right.
Thiers alot of things to consider before you finally decide to lay your hard earned cash down for a custom bow
It would be good to go to a traditional event like Comptoms in MI in June, the Traditional Expo in MI in January,Denton Hill PA.or Cloverdale IN in June to try the many bows on display by Bowyers or also other archers that will often let you shoot the bow they are carrying around in the tryout areas.
Good luck!

X2. I haven't had a better performing recurve--and I've had lots of them over many years by some of the best. Love my new Bear TD.

X3 His Evolution Recurve limbs are sensational. And believe me, if you don't get exactly what you order...
1. It would be a shocker
2. Bill would make it right, and fast.
Fedora, RER, Stalker, Great Plaines and Zipper come to mind! Many more and I'm really sure what your looking for!
i must say the morrison cheyenne with the max limbs has me interested. For now the problem has been solved but you never know what the future holds. Turned out to be a bit of a storm in a tea cup.

Habu (Bugatti Veyron! Long wait and 'pay to play' but top of the mountain)
Morrison (5 star American quality with a little Los Alamos thrown in)
Caribow Tuktu EX 2pc (Fastest thing outta Canada shy of a hockey slapshot! Yes!!)
Toelke SS 2pc (just good old Montana Mountain zip!)
Zipper (see: Morrison)
Bigfoot (got one on the way, mad scientist! ;) )
Eaglewing (haven't tried one yet but I hear lots of good, its on my list)
Another option......Find an ILF riser you really like and then try some different limbs to get the performance you need.
